Jerusalem: Fire in Yeshivas Torah Ore Leaves Over 10 With Smoke Inhalation


A 55-year-old man is listed in moderate condition and about ten others were injured lightly when fire erupted in Yeshiva Torah Ore on HaRav Sorotzkin Street in Yerushalayim on Sunday morning.

Fire department officials report there was heavy smoke conditions upon their arrival. Nine adults and children were taken out of the building by firemen.

United Hatzalah Jerusalem Chief Miki Cohen explains a United Hatzalah ambulance responded to the scene in addition to other personnel operating on the scene. The victims sustained smoke inhalation.

MDA reports receiving the call at 9:23AM, dispatching ambulances to the site of the six-story building.

Shaare Zedek Hospital spokesperson Shoham reported 10 children and 3 adults were transported to the hospital, all suffering from non-life-threatening smoke inhalation.

The preliminary investigation into the cause of the fire by fire department officials reveals that a toasting device or sandwich maker was used on a mattress in a dormitory, which led to the mattress burning and spreading acrid smoke quickly throughout the room and then the building.
