Peleg Rabbonim Apologize For Opposition To Major Fundraiser

The directors of Peleg-affiliated mosdos who were opposed to the ‘Matching’ campaign last week because of the efforts of the Keren Meir Eini Yisrael fund headed by HaGaon Rav Yisrael Yitzchak Kalmanovich, on Tuesday morning, February 26th, released a clarification letter in which they are now supporting the massive fundraising effort that took place last week to benefit Peleg institutions.

The letter, which is being viewed as an apology, which referred to reaching out to the masses to donate, and ended in success, states, “Honorable Rabbonim and Geonim Shlita. Regarding the letter published on 4 Shevat and the troubles surrounding the fundraising campaign, we have already clarified in writing on 8 Shevat 5779 that after it was made known that Rabbonim Gedolei Yisrael Shlita discussed the matter, and they are running the fundraising event, view our letter as null and void. The letter was signed by Chaim Ruchamkin and Eliyahu Tombak.

In the end, the Peleg Yerushalmi Council decided to uphold the Matchings campaign that had earned nearly NIS 30 million, and the opponents chose to clarify their opposition.

A source in Peleg said that “after the great success of the ‘Yizkor Ahavaso’ campaign held last week for dozens of institutions of Peleg Yerushalmi, the directors of the Tiferes Yaakov and Beis Yaakov schools in Bnei Brak, Eliyahu Tombak and Chaim Ruchamkin, announced their support for the fundraising campaign after they had previously pledged to the success of the fundraising campaign of the Keren Meir Eini fund, which was planned for all the institutions, and whose managers are currently working to raise funds for the keren.”

According to the source, “Behind the announcement of support stands the surprising success of the ‘Yizkor Ahavaso’ campaign, which covers almost all the debts of the directors of institutions, and somewhat limits the operations of the Kerem Meir Eini Yisrael as an emergency fund.”
