Tal Calling for a Referendum on Golan Heights

golan1.jpgMK (Kadima) David Tal is not waiting for the prime minister to announce a deal involving Syria towards giving away the Golan Heights for a signed peace deal.

Tal is calling for legislation that would compel Israel to take the issue of a withdrawal from the Golan Heights to a national referendum, preventing lawmakers from taking such a step without the support of the people.

Tal explains that to date, over 60 MKs have already signed on the bill proposal, a reality which he calls encouraging, but added with his parliamentary experience he is aware that not every MK signing the bill will necessary raise his/her hand to sign it into law.

Tal added that he and other Kadima members are somewhat perplexed by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s actions, his “obsession towards peace at any price,” giving away and making concessions in all directions.

Tal added that anyone who cannot recall the situation prior to the June 1967 Six Day War, having seen the fear due to the realities of Israel’s enemies surrounding her and the vulnerability of residents cannot truly understand the significance of talk pertaining to the major concessions, such has handing the Golan Heights over to Syria.

  1. Chas Vesholem that this materialize. Syria would undoubtedly renege and use it for destructive purposes. Even with all new technology available for Israel this still would be a major strategic loss for Israel.

  2. Olmert isn’t a military man so he couldn’t care less. All he wants is to go down as the man who made peace with the arabs. All he is actually doing is making pieces.
