Toeiva Community Furious That Jerusalem Municipality Ordered No Flags Near Yeshurun Shul

This week, Jerusalem city workers were seen busying themselves with the removal of the state flag following Jerusalem Day, replacing the flags with the toeiva flag R”L. the flags can be seen along major areas of the city, including King George and Keren HaYesod Streets. It appears that there is a measure of consideration being shown, as the city has instructed workers not to hang the flags within tens of meters (yards) of the Yeshurun Shul.

Of course, this respectful act by the city has led to complaints, as supporters of the rights of the toeiva community are asking “why the flags are not seen in that area, a major portion of the parade route,” as the annual parade, which has been backed by Israel’s Supreme Court, is set for Thursday afternoon, June 6, 2019.

Those angered over the city’s move insist the flags were hung the entire route of the parade in past years, but it appears someone in Mayor Moshe Leon’s administration is showing a bit more respect for the shul than the administration of his predecessor, Nir Barkat, now a Member of Knesset in the Likud party.

MyNet reports that the rav of the Yeshurun Shul made the request, not to hang flags near the shul, and the city has complied.

Attorney Yossi Chavilov is demanding the toeiva flags be hung “The length of the entire parade route, as per the ruling of the Supreme Court”, adding he will be bringing the matter to the attention of the city’s legal advisor.

Jerusalem Chief Rabbi HaGaon HaRav Aryeh Stern Shlita has turned to the mayor, asking him not to hang the toeiva flags because they make Yerushalayim “ugly”. In response, members of the toeiva community hung their flag on the office of the Jerusalem Rabbinate as reported by YWN-Israel.

Participants in this year’s parade will gather in Liberty Bell Park at 3:30PM and begin their march at 5:00PM. As a result, many streets will be closed beginning at 2:30PM, including but not limited to Keren HaYesod, King George, Hillel, Menashe Ben-Yisrael and Liberty Bell Park.

The parade route

The Lehava organization headed by Bentzi Gupstein will hold a protest rally in front of the Toeiva Parade. The demonstration, which was approved by the police, will take place opposite the parade route in the Bloomfield Garden.

In contrast to previous years in which the organization demonstrated against the parade, the police also authorized the use of a loudspeaker system, and the activists will carry signs reading “Father & Father is not a Family”, and more.

Gupstein said “I call upon all those who understand Kedushas Yerushalayim and the values of the Jewish family to come and protest in front of the march intended to dissolve the values of the Jewish family and turn Jerusalem and the entire State of Israel into Sodom. It is very important to demonstrate in front of the march so that everyone knows that there are many good people who do not agree to the abomination and harm to the Jewish identity of the state.

“This time with the help of the amplification system, we will explain to all the marchers that they are bringing disaster to the people of Israel in what they want to promote and leverage, and I hope that at least some of the marchers will be persuaded and leave the parade.”

  1. I believe in letting gay people do whatever they want and to stay out of their business — but to insist on a parade in Jerusalem is absurd . Plenty of other cities in Israel they could prance around . I’m usually pretty liberal with the gay stuff but this one is a bit unfair and purposely spiteful within a city that clearly represents the Judaism and it’s tenets.

  2. Yeah, sure, some of the marchers will leave the parade. Don’t they understand how militant these toiaivim are? There is no way the protestors will cave in. They have political agendas. They will never do teshuvah. They will be of the 90% of the Yidden that will not see yemois haMoshiach.

  3. Did they also hang their flages in front of any mosques or churches along the parade route? Or did the organizers make sure to avoid those sort of places so as not to offend the worshipers’ sensibilities?

  4. Mot,

It goes beyond that, its Israel as well that has that ‘political agenda, they can go ahead and claim: Look we are the only state in the mid east with LGBT rights…

(Don’t forget: after Palis Rights LGBT is the foremost agenda for leftists in the EU and USA)

  5. To hymish,
What do you mean “stay out of their business”?????
God might punish all those people that simply ignored this abomination . We have to do our best to stop this and help out these people to change their ways for the better.
Ask your local orthodox Rabbi, he can explain this issue to you very well.
If we sit back and do nothing, God might send a large fire, mud slides, car accidents, an Arab with a large truck who on purpose goes a drop on the shoulder in order to smash a disabled vehicle, Arabs throwing large deadly rocks, Arabs with guns non-stop shooting, fatal stabbings, Arabs intentionally causing accidents, Arabs driving directly into bus stops, all kinds of fires, the list goes on and on and on.

  6. Avraham, all of the frightening possibilities you mentioned are very real – but they are not reasons to do the right thing.
We should always try to do the right thing simply because it’s what Hashem wants us to do.

  7. SO much better of a response to STAY AWAY and learn an extra seder or say tehillim. Standing, screaming and “protesting” will be absolutely POINTLESS and total Bittul Zman. Be smart about this.

  8. and what about 300 meter ahead which is the GREAT SHUL in YERUSALEM. SHOULD NOT BE THERE EITHER
THE ISRAEL SUPREME COURT IS THE SUPREME COURT OF RASHIM

  9. People here are so devorced from reality. Screaming and protesting at this point will only make it worse. They will hate Judaism more and more aveiros will be caused because of this.
The only thing frum Jews can do to make a difference is show the rest of Jews Kiddush Hashem. Show that we recognize that we are all one family, and we care and have rochmonos on everyone. When someone has a problem, that bh we are not faced with, we need to show rachmanos. Screaming at these people is absolute worst idea, and whoever does so is not someone who cares for the Jewish people, but is just serving their gaava, and not Hashem.
The people who were not born into the culture that you were born into, cannot be expected to see the world in the way you see it. Hashem made them be born into their situation and you to be born into your situation. Very few people actually change their ideology, and if they do it is through positive experiences with a different culture. Unfortunately the charedi community keeps exhibiting one chillul Hashem after another. They insist on being blind to the needs of the Jewish people. Just because you are so sure you are right, doesn’t mean you have the right to force the issue. Especially when it only brings more Jew’s to more aveiros.

  10. Avraham -“We have to do our best to stop this and help out these people to change their ways for the better.“ how will this make them change their ways? the issue goes so much deeper and a public demonstration won’t change any of their hearths.
(Specially if it’s not done showinng them that they as individuals have value as Jews.)
However I do think that we can’t stay quiet , we can’t allow people to think that religion has to conform to the times. We see other religions adapting to it.
This is a very complicated issue for those individuals to deal with and that will be one of their hardest struggles , but celebrating it with pride is not good for society.
I bet most people in our community wouldn’t know how to help a person like that. Would you tell them to stay single for life? To get regular married without saying anything to the spouse ? Specially now days that people in our community started buying into the genetic liberal talk point.
It’s a complicated issue and the biggest victims are those individuals.

  11. We should make a Yom tefilla on that day to ask Hashem to send these people a refuas hanefesh. According to therapists most or all of these people were molested as children and are acting out their pain. It is sad that their “lifestyle “ became something to celebrate. It is a response to the judgemental and condescending way society used to deal with them. Instead, we need to treat them with compassion, and tefillos for their healing, and urge any individuals to seek help from a frum therapist who has experience in this field

  12. I also believe that we should stage a peaceful protest to show we are not in agreement. We can say tehillim there, but kol yisroel arriving zeh Lazeh. We cannot remain silent.

  13. Ruach – you might be confused ; that is the reason people become pedophiles many times not the reason people become..
many if not most kids who are molested do not have either of those issues.
Most psychologists say that they are born that way, reparative therapists say it happens because the father was not available and / or they did not connect to their same gender peers (sometimes with a combination of a mother who is too close to the child.) It became too political and therefore hard to research.
Often a boy is born more affeminated and therefore parents treat him as if he is not straight. Either way some kids are genetically more fragile to their environment.
