Women of the Wall Call to Meet with Kosel Rav for the New Year

The Women of the Wall (WoW) organization sent a letter to the Rabbi of the Kosel and Holy Sites, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz.

The organization writes “With the New Year and the appointment of the new director-general or the organization, we wish to meet with you”. WoW officials tell the media the letter was sent over a week ago, but it has still not received a response.

Yochi Rappaport, the organization’s new director, wishes to begin the New Year with a meeting with Rabbi Rabinowitz, who is in charge of the Kosel and the nation’s other holy sites.

“We expect that just as the rav found the time to meet with Madonna and Melania Trump, he will succeed in finding time in his busy schedule to meet with us too” the women write, adding, “we wish to daven at the Kosel with emunah and true kavona. It is inconceivable that an elected public official, who salary is paid by the state, will refuse to meet with us”.

The add that “we too strive for respectable tefilla at the Kosel”, quoting

׳לב טהור ברא לי אלוה..ורוח נכון חדש בקרבי

The letter is concluded with New Year salutations.

WoW is planning a major Kosel tefilla event on October 30, 2019, corresponding to Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan 5780, with the participation of “Jewish leaders” from around the world.

  1. I was at the Kosel when they were there. It was literally a bunch of old ladies with bobby-pinned yarmulkes and pink tallisos standing on chairs singing oseh shalom.

  2. Rabinowitz should meet with them as a pro forma matter just as he has with other non-frum groups in his administrative role as Director of the Kosel public spaces. He should not give them undue publicity by refusing to meet or otherwise restricting their activities.
