Polio Detected in Yerushalayim Sewage System

polioJerusalem district health officials announced on Monday 5 Tishrei 5773 that the polio virus was found in the city’s water treatment plant. It was the detection of the virus in the Beersheva and other southern region sewage systems that compelled the launching of the nationwide polio oral booster vaccination program. The virus has since been found in sewage systems in the north and other areas of the country.

Health Ministry officials report that to date, 700,000 children under the age of nine have received the booster vaccine to date.

The ministry urges parents who have not yet done so, to have their children vaccinated, explaining failure to do so places the children and the populations at risk for the vaccine not only addresses the issue of contracting the illness chas v’sholom but spreading it as well.

  1. Due to the fact that polio spreads through the fecal-oral route (i.e. the virus is transmitted from the stool of an infected person to the mouth of another person through a contaminated object, e.g. utensil) focusing on hygiene, sanitation and proper nutrition (to support innate immunity) is a logical way to prevent transmission in the first place, as well as reducing morbidity associated with an infection when it does occur.
Instead, a large portion of the world’s vaccines are given to the third world as “charity,” when the underlying conditions of economic impoverishment, poor nutrition, chemical exposures, and socio-political unrest are never addressed. You simply can’t vaccinate people out of these conditions, and as India’s new epidemic of vaccine-induced polio cases clearly demonstrates, the “cure” may be far worse than the disease itself.
