“Hamas Mouthpiece:” NYT Rehires Gaza Journalist Who Praised Hitler

Soliman Hijjy, a videographer who was let go in the past by The New York Times due to his social media posts praising Hitler for his hatred of Jews, was rehired following the Hamas massacre in Israel on October 7th.

Predictably, Hijjy was one of the journalists who reported the Hamas lie that Israel caused the explosion at a Gaza hospital, which was later proven to have been caused by a failed Palestinian Islamic Jihad rocket.

The New York Times responded to an inquiry by Fox News on why it rehired a reporter who praised Hitler by stating: “We reviewed problematic social media posts by Mr. Hijjy when they first came to light in 2022 and took a variety of actions to ensure he understood our concerns and could adhere to our standards if he wished to do freelance work for us in the future. Mr. Hijjy followed those steps and has maintained high journalistic standards. He has delivered important and impartial work at great personal risk in Gaza during this conflict.”

When Fox News further asked how Hijjy could possibly be “impartial” in light of his views, the newspaper refused to comment.

Israeli Ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan responded by calling The New York Times a “Hamas mouthpiece”

The New York Times has just rehired a NAZI,” he stated. “Let that sink in. Soliman Hijjy praises Hitler, and the NYT rehired him. We all saw how the NYT immediately parroted Hamas’ lies regarding the al-Ahli hospital (which Hijjy contributed to) and still refuses to retract these fabrications.”

“Spreading Hamas propaganda and rehiring a Holocaust-praising terror supporter, actively stokes antisemitism. Every Jew must understand that not reading or advertising in Hamas mouthpieces is an integral part of our right to self-defense. And we must defend ourselves!!!”

Of course, the rehiring of Hijjy is only one sign of a much broader problem of slanted reporting by the NYT. Former ambassador to Israel David Friedman stated on Monday: “Right on cue, the NYT says Israel should not kill Palestinian kids as retribution for Hamas killing Israeli kids. Such an infuriating and intellectually dishonest argument! Hamas targets and brutalizes civilians, including children. Israel will never target a child, or a woman, or any other civilian. It will not kidnap them either, or subject them to sexual abuse. Consistent with the laws of armed conflict, Israel will win this war — a war Israel did not begin. It will do so solely to defend its citizens. It will take pains, at great risk to its soldiers, to avoid hurting children. To sum up, supporting Israel IS NOT PRIORITIZING THE VALUE OF ISRAELI LIVES OVER PALESTINIAN LIVES. Just to utter that phrase is nothing short of blasphemous!”

In response, X user David Jackson wrote: “They’re just following the script:”
