Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday suggested that a major breakthrough in negotiations between the United States and Iran may be close at hand, saying the “final objective” of the talks is “just about to be achieved.”
In a statement posted on X, Sharif called on all parties involved in the escalating regional conflict to exercise restraint and allow diplomatic efforts to continue.
“The recent surge in violence in the Middle East is a stark reminder of the dangers associated with a tenuous ceasefire and the unbearable consequences it may lead to,” Sharif wrote.
“As we work earnestly and painstakingly, together with our brothers and partners, to find a peaceful diplomatic solution to the conflict, and especially when the final objective is just about to be achieved, we sincerely urge all sides to exercise restraint and give peace a little more chance,” he added.
Sharif did not elaborate on what he meant by the “final objective,” but the remarks come amid intense diplomatic efforts to secure a broader agreement between Washington and Tehran and prevent further escalation across the region.
“Let us continue to remain on the path of peace and diplomacy which have bright prospects of success instead of violence and destruction!” Sharif concluded.
