Is the PM’s Office Serving Treif to Official Guests?

olf.jpgWell, this one depends on who you wish to believe. Since Prime Minister Ehud Olmert officially announced his resignation, he also decided to change caterers for meals ordered for his official guests, moving over to the prestigious Cavalier of Yerushalayim, a non-kosher establishment.

Shas Party leader Eli Yishai is fuming at the news, decrying the fact that the prime minister of Israel serves non-kosher to government guests, calling upon him to halt the practice immediately.

Cavalier owner and chief chef Didi Ben-Harush states that all the food is prepared and cooked on premises. A spokesman for Olmert, Yankie Galantee states that this is simply untrue, and all of the food is prepared and cooked in premises in the Prime Minister’s Office.

It is difficult to obtain additional information and no one seems to be able/willing to explain that if the ingredients are non-kosher, why anyone would wish them to be cooked in the Prime Minister’s Office.

  1. What a slap in the face to the thousands of non-frum Israelis in Govt, Army, and elswhere who work hard to respect their brothers and sisters and maintain standards of kashrut and Yiddishkeit. Olmert was the wrong man for the Job,and the fact that he shows no respect for this proves it. Men like Sharon and Begin knew whose hand guides things, even if they didn’t rise to levels of observance as they might have. Olmert and Barak, and probably Bibi too, simply don’t get it.

  2. Why be surprised? At the Hasc Concert a few months after 9/11 Olmert and NY Mayor Rudy Gulianni were both featured speakers. This is a NY function but a Jewish function, Rudy wore a yarlmuka, Olmert did not! Why ask Why??
