Air Force Avoiding Gaza to Prevent Surface-to-Air Missile Attacks

iaf1.jpgIsrael Air Force officials have modified flight routes to avoid having cargo and other non-operational flights fly over or too near to Hamas-controlled Gaza as a precautionary move to avoid being targeted with Hamas anti-aircraft fire, Channel 2 news reported on Wednesday night.

In addition, even helicopter gunships and operational aircraft have modified their flight patterns to avoid new threats posed by Hamas’ increasingly advanced weaponry, which includes advanced anti-aircraft weapons.

That said, senior air force commanders acknowledge the threat, but indicate they are more than capable of working around it, and if and when they are called upon to act, the IAF is more than capable of facing the challenges vis-à-vis Gaza they explain confidently.
