According to Justice Minister Daniel Friedman, Israel has the authority to reduce privileges for terrorists in Israel. The senior minister explained that the prisoners enjoy more than “minimal” privileges, and therefore, there is room to remove some of the perks given to them.
Freidman heads the ministerial committee that was established on Tuesday, responsible to investigate how privileges for terrorists in Israel can be reduced towards pressuring Hamas towards a deal to release Gilad Shalit. The ministerial committee is to present its recommendations to the cabinet on Sunday.
The minister added he realizes that any attempt to remove privileges from terrorists will be challenged by petitions to the High Court but he nevertheless he remains firm in his opinion.
