Jail Time for Israeli Arabs Guilty of Yeshiva Arson Attack

Two Israeli Arab residents of Akko were sentence to prison for an arson attack against a yeshiva located in the city, an attack that was judged as a hate crime. A third defendant was sentenced to community service. The defendants sentenced to prison were also ordered to each make payment to the Ruach Tzfonit Yeshiva in the amount of NIS 40,000 as a result of the attack which occurred during the period of the racial riots that began last Yom Kippur.

Ibrahim Binny was sentenced to four years and Salah Titi to 2.5 years. The third defendant apparently expressed remorse, coupled with a record exhibiting a positive past documenting community service, elicited the sympathy of the court and a lesser sentence.
