Egyptian Court to Revoke Citizenship for Marrying Israelis

chupa.jpgAn Egyptian Administrative Court has started the process of stripping Egyptians citizens of their citizenship after they married Israelis, explaining their new status compromises Egyptian state security and is an insult that cannot be tolerated.

The court has ordered the minister of the interior to begin taking action against 30,000 Egyptian men who married Israelis. The court acknowledged the growing trend of Egyptian men marrying Israeli women, who they meet in Israel where they work. The court demanded immediate action towards sending a clear message and bringing an end to the trend, which it labeled “an insult to acceptable social norms”.

The court stressed that Egyptian citizenship is a status of “honor second to none that bestows privileges and responsibilities on citizens which demand total undiluted loyalty to the homeland”.

The children born of such marriages will receive Israeli citizenship through the mother “and the court will not tolerate a second citizenship as a partner or competitor in its heart and soul”.

The court stressed the dual citizenship present a security threat since the citizens may join the IDF. The court also stated it will take firm action should the minister fail to act as instructed.
