The day�s event was intended to be a festive occasion, affixing a mezuzah to the doorpost of the office of Modi�in Illit Councilman Golan Chasdi, but instead, it turned into a venue for a protest by residents of Ganei Modi�in, the chareidi area bordering Chasmonaim but under the municipal jurisdiction of Modi�in Illit. The residents claim that City Hall simply ignores them and they do not receive services as do other areas under the Modi�in Illit umbrella. The protest was held in the presence of Mayor R� Yaakov Guterman and Minister of Religious Services Yaakov Margi.

According to a Chadrei Chareidim report, the mayor pressed police to respond expeditiously and in large numbers to disperse the protestors as quickly as possible.
