Water Crisis to Continue for At Least 3 Years

According to the head of the Water Authority, Prof. Uri Shani, the current water crisis will continue for at least three years. Shani made his remarks during an urgent Knesset session addressing the water crisis.

He told lawmakers that Israel will be in a better position in 2013, not before, but a solution will demand NIS 30 billion, which he is not receiving from the treasury. As a result, he sees an increase in water rates as an unavoidable move towards compelling water conservation.

Minister of National Infrastructure (Ichud HaLeumi) Dr. Uzi Landau added the situation is indeed very serious and there is no avoiding the fact that conservation is essential.
