President Peres, the Dreamer Diplomat


Addressing high schoolers in the northern community of Chatzor HaGlilit, President Shimon Peres accused Hizbullah of preventing Lebanon from becoming the “Switzerland of the Middle East”. From the man who brought us Oslo, the president continues to expose his vision of a new improved Mideast.

Mr. Peres stated he does not see Israel entering into a war with Hizbullah in the near future. He added that at some point, he hopes “Hizbullah will begin bowing down to the gods of peace instead of the gods of missiles”, making a reference to Iran.

The president stated that Israel has upheld her obligations regarding UN Resolution 1701, the Second Lebanon War ceasefire agreement, but in Lebanon, there is a different reality, blaming Hizbullah, which has moved from a religious entity to a terrorist army which is not an integral part in the running of Lebanon.

The president was handed a petition for the release of Jonathan Pollard, telling students Israel continues to work to obtain his release, with requests made of each American administration, requests that are repeatedly turned down.
