El Al Hopes to Renew Flights to Europe on Monday

El Al officials are announcing on Sunday afternoon that if there are no changes for the worse overnight, flights to and from European destinations will resume on Monday.

Airline officials announced service should be resuming to Kiev, Sophia, Bucharest, Barcelona, Budapest, Milan, Warsaw and Marseilles. Additional flights are expected to be added to a number of routes, including Rome, Madrid  and Athens in an effort to bring as many stranded Israelis home for Memorial and Impendence Days as possible.

Arkia Airlines officials report that if the situation does not take a turn for the worse a flight will leave Ben-Gurion International Airport at 7:00pm, heading for Rome, scheduled to return tonight (Sunday) from Rome at 11:30pm.

Israeli officials on Sunday reported an estimated 40,000 Israelis were impacted by the cancellation of flights due to the volcanic cloud emitted by the volcanic activity in Iceland, which began last Thursday.

  1. Elderly relatives of mine who were meant to fly back from Israel to Europe today, were told by El Al that they are re-booked for in 2 weeks time! They are not considered priority cases.
