The U.S. and China signed off on a deal to spin off TikTok’s U.S. operations, allowing the app to continue operating in the United States, a White House official confirmed.

* The move is meant to address concerns tied to ByteDance, including potential Chinese government access to data of 170 million American users, under a 2024 law requiring divestment or a ban.

* The deal follows a September executive order by President Trump that delayed enforcement of the law and set a Jan. 22 closing date.
