NYC: Some Rain/Snow Expected Tonight

An area of low pressure passes south of the tri-state region tonight.  As a result . . . a mix of rain and snow is possible this evening before changing to all light snow overnight.  Light snow accumulation is forecast with low temperatures in the upper 20s to near 30 degrees.  Sky conditions quickly clear Thursday morning as the system departs to the east and high pressure builds in from the west.  High temperatures will be a few degrees above normal in the low to middle 40s.  Warmer conditions are forecast on Friday as southerly wind flow develops with the high pressure moving offshore.  Temperatures are forecast to be close to ten degrees above normal on Friday.

Precipitation and Timing
NWS is looking for a mixture of light rain/snow to start developing this evening around 7:00 PM.  This rain/snow is forecasted to become all snow starting around 10:00 PM tonight.  Two to three tenths (i.e. 2/10th to 3/10th) of an inch of liquid is expected.  The snow will be wet with only about one to 2 inches of accumulation possible.  Current forecasts are leaning more toward one inch for the city at this point.  The steadiest periods of rain/snow should be between 10:00 PM and 1:00 AM.  Precipitation, be it rain or snow, will likely draw to a close by 3:00 AM Thursday morning.  Chance of snow tonight is 90 percent.
