Queens BP Candidate Peter Vallone Jr. Assists with Masbia

vCouncil Member and Democratic Queens Borough President candidate Peter F. Vallone Jr. today joined forces with Masbia – a nonprofit soup kitchen and food pantry with locations in Queens and Brooklyn – to help distribute hot meals and take-home packages of groceries to hundreds of families and local residents in need.

“There is nothing quite like seeing a smile on the face of a parent with kids to feed who has been given groceries for a weekend, or a senior citizen living on a fixed income who has just received a hot meal,” said Council Member Vallone. “I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to assist with the good work Masbia does week-in and week-out and help feed those among us in desperate need of food and good nutrition.”

Masbia distributes hot meals every week from its Queens site located at 98-08 Queens Boulevard in Rego Park. The nonprofit is funded in part by the Metropolitan-Council on Jewish Poverty. Thursday’s distribution offered a special selection of dairy products as part of its take-home packages in advance of Shavuot.

Alex Rappaport, Executive Director of Masbia, said, “I would like to thank Council Member Vallone for joining us today to help feed some of our neediest and most vulnerable neighbors in Queens. Hunger knows no race, religion or season, which is why we are so grateful for the year-round support we receive from people like Council Member Vallone who help raise awareness about our good works.”
