Consultant To Review Claims In LIPA Report

lipaA consultant cited in the Moreland Commission report for questionable business relationships with the Long Island Power Authority says it is reviewing the report’s claims.

The Moreland Commission’s final report Saturday recommended federal prosecutors examine business relationships between Chicago-based Navigant Consulting Inc. and LIPA.

The commission was established by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to oversee the response of New York utilities to Superstorm Sandy.

In a statement released Sunday, Navigant said they were not aware of the report’s claims until they were publicly released. The company said it will cooperate with authorities.

The report found that of the $43.4 million LIPA contracted to consultants for general consulting and engineering services between 2008 and 2011, $28 million went to Navigant. The commission found Navigant employees were able to bill at high rates.
