Yishai: Narrow Government Will Not Last Long

Shas leader Eli Yishai told Kol Chai Radio on Monday night that if the incoming administration remains a coalition of 65, its days will be extremely numbered, stating without doubt that that a broad-based coalition is what is needed to provide a modicum of stability as well as dealing with the major issues that face the nation today.

Shas has signed a coalition agreement with Likud, as has the Yisrael Beitenu party. Talks are ongoing with other potential partners including Yahadut HaTorah, Ichud HaLeumi, Bayit HaYehudi and Labor. Labor official Shalom Simchon announced on Monday he does not foresee a situation in which an agreement will be signed in the coming days.

On Tuesday, the Labor Party central committee is scheduled to meet to decide if the party will authorize entering the coalition or demand the MKs reject coalition talks and join the opposition along with Kadima and Arab parties. (Yechiel Spira – YWN Israel)
