ADL Condemns Leaflet Forbidding Renting Apartments to Arabs

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) strongly condemned a call signed by Ashdod rabbis forbidding Jews from renting apartments to Arabs or foreign workers. The call was made in a leaflet distributed by the organization Yad l’Achim and signed by well-known rabbis in the city.

ADL’s Israel office issued the following statement:

We deplore such bigotry in the strongest terms. Such discriminatory appeals are a terrible offense against Jewish teaching and a stain on the name of the Jewish people. Such conduct toward Jews anywhere in the world would not be tolerated and such conduct toward non-Jews must also not be tolerated in the Jewish state.

The call to residents of the city to discriminate against Arabs and foreign workers is not only incompatible with Israeli democratic law and we call upon the authorities to investigate this so-called ultra-Orthodox organization.

This is not the first time that Yad l’Achim has issued racist statements. In the past they have intimidated and harassed members of Jehovah’s Witnesses and others. The ADL in Israel urges the authorities to call the Rabbis of Ashdod who signed off on this appeal to order accordingly.

  1. Again, I would stress that I can’t believe such things occur in 2006. I don’t think its good to do to any race or class of people. Its cruel and it should not be the major reason, someone’s ethnicity, for not renting to them.

We all know that there are bad in every single group of people of this planet. Therefore, we cannot believe that if we punish everyone in that particular group, its right, because its not.

One problem that I have always had, I don’t see skin color; I don’t care what religion you practice; I don’t care how much money you have in your pocket; and I don’t care about your family background. But what I do care about is what is in your heart and soul. If you are a kind person who believes in treating others as you wish to be treated yourself. Helping others when you know there is a need; no matter who they are. Remember, Father created each of us in His image – that speaks volumes to me. He did not create only some of us in His image – He created all of us in His image.

I’m sure not all the Jewish community agree with this and will act accordingly. Theres so much hatred in our world, I get so tired of seeing in wherever it rears its ugly head.

  2. The ADL has no conception of the reason for such a leaflet! The ADL is so worried about what the goyim will think, well wake up and smell the coffee ADL, no matter what we do the goyim still will not love us! This is not a racist leaflet, it is a self preservation leaflet!
Arabs (or any goyim) in a jewish neighborhood = Intermarriage and Assimilation! Arabs have no shortage of places to live, they do not need to live among Jews unless they intend to create facts on the ground and steal more Jewish land and more Jewish girls. How many Jewish women does Yad L’Achim need to rescue from arab villages after being beaten, their kids taken away and their lives threatened before the ADL understands that wqe must worry about Jews and not about arabs or other goyim?

  3. This is not about racism, this is about Jewish Self Preservation and the prevention of assimilation, intermarriage and terrorist attacks. The Arabs have enough places to live in all their countries, and villages without having to come live aming jews!
ADl should wake up and worry about protecting Jews not what the goyim will think of us. No matter what we do they will always hate us!

  4. I’d like to know where the ADL gets off telling a group of Rabbis what is and isn’t an “offense against Jewish teaching.” That’s an incredible chutzpah.

  5. Yitzkd, may I ask, what is a goyim? Am I a goyim because I am not of Jewish descent? If so, I would like to state, for the record, that not all goyim “will not love the Jewish people” – this is insane to say. I happen to respect the Jewish population greatly – and I happen to understand why they do what they do because of your teachings. My point is that you are certainly entitled to live as you wish, but in separating yourself from the community, you no longer are a part of that community. Its a tough spot to be in. But we, as goyim, if that is what you feel I am, do try to understand these things.

I know the importance of my Jewish brethren – I know you are the chosen people, and how could I hate Abba’s chosen people?! So please don’t place all in the same cart, because thats just not fair. I’m sure you respect my personal beliefs, as I do yours; but I’ve never, ever once felt that the Jewish community would somehow hate me because of it…Because we are different does not mean we hate one another. I don’t.

And I still feel there are good in all people. Yes, some Arabs are terrorists, but that doesn’t mean all of them are. Thats an unfair blanket statement.

    Just my two cents –

  6. Reverse discrimination is never a good thing.
Also, as far as, self preservation – I’m quite sure that the Chosen People of Abba will be here forever more.
