Only 28 Years in Prison for Romema Terrorists: Prosecution: “The Fact That No One Was Murdered Is A Neis!”

The Jerusalem District Court sentenced two terrorists from Chevron to 28 years of imprisonment each for carrying out a ramming and an attempted shooting and stabbing attack near a shul on Techelet Mordechai Street in the Ganei Geula neighborhood on Erev Pesach, 2024.

The two were convicted of four counts of attempted murder under circumstances constituting an act of terrorism, along with additional related offenses.

According to the verdict, the two defendants—one a minor at the time—conspired together to carry out a terrorist attack with the intent to murder Jews. They prepared by securing a vehicle, an improvised submachine gun, ammunition, knives, and an axe. They tampered with the vehicle’s license plates and entered Israel.

Upon reaching the Romema neighborhood, they identified four Chareidi men, accelerated toward them, and struck them with the vehicle. They then attempted to shoot and stab the victims, but b’Chasdei Hashem, their plan failed due to a malfunction in the “Carlo” weapon. Three residents who were lightly injured in the attack were treated at the hospital and released before Yom Tov.

During sentencing arguments, the Jerusalem District Prosecutor’s Office, represented by Attorney Moriah Hirsch, requested 37 years of imprisonment for each defendant, in addition to suspended sentences and significant compensation for the victims.

The prosecution stressed that this was a severe, premeditated terrorist attack involving multiple weapons and clear lethal intent, and that the fact that there were no fatalities was “nothing short of a neis.” They argued that the defendants’ young ages should not mitigate their punishment, especially given that the attack occurred during wartime and required a strong deterrent response.

The court rejected the prosecution’s request and imposed 28‑year prison terms, along with suspended sentences and financial compensation to the victims.
