IDF Chief Steps-Up Military Presence Along S. Border

IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz has ordered an increase in troops along Israel’s borders to Gaza and Egypt in response to credible intelligence community reports of planned attacks in those areas. It appears an Islamic Jihad cell may be traveling to Sinai, hoping to enter Israel from via the Egyptian border to perpetrate an attack, as was the case in the recent multipronged attack on Route 12 north of Eilat. Those terrorists made their way to Israel via Sinai, taking advantage of the low security at that border along with the reality much of the border does not have a partition fence.

A total of eight people were murdered in the August 18th attack, both civilians and security forces.

In a related matter, Egypt is deploying 1,500 troops in Sinai after the move was approved by Israel.
