Sunday Morning News Briefs from Eretz Yisrael


IDF soldiers taking part in counterterrorism operations throughout Yehuda and Shomron during the night apprehended 10 suspects.

** Moshe Silman, who set himself ablaze during motzei shabbos social protest, sustained burns over most of his body. He remains in critical condition at Tel Hashomer Hospital.

10:00: PA sources report IDF soldiers during predawn hours arrested Hamas Parliamentarian Ahmed Abed el-Azzi Mubarak in his el-Bireh home. He was also arrested in 2007 and sentenced to four years imprisonment.

** Due to the ongoing heat-wave, Israel Electric Company announces rolling power outages are to be expected as the utility company seeks to maintain operations amid an unprecedented demand for electricity.

12:00: Hebron Jews accuse Arabs of arson, setting ablaze a storage unit of seforim near the Machpelah earlier in the day. Damage to the seforim was extensive.

** 25 social justice protestors turned to a Tel Aviv court against Tel Aviv City Hall because the latter prohibited the establishment of protest tents on the city’s Rothschild Street. The mayor said he would permit tents for 9 days on condition they are manned during daytime hours only and not a tent city in which people live as was the case last year.
