hello99 -“HaRav Shteinman ruled that bathroom and stairwell lights are Pikuach Nefesh. If the Debretziner agreed, his Heter would not be relevent to a typical Tzorech Gadol.”

There is absolutely no comparison to the case of Ameira L’acum. At least there is one Shitta in the Rema that says Mutter, even if acc. to you -you can’t be Somieach on. Where does anyone Matir the Issur D’rabbonon that you mentioned above? Therefore R. Shteinman had to come onto Pikuach Nefesh to push this Shvus away.

“The point is that each case has different factors and without knowing the precise circumstances the Debretziner was Matir, we cannot postulate a Klal that he opposed all the Poskim I listed.”

The reason you don’t know why the Debrecener was Matir was because you didn’t look it up. He says why you can tell the Goy to open the bathroom light in your house in ???? ?”? in the Hebrew section. Since you claim you have no possible access to this Sefer -I’ll tell you his reason – because of Kovod Habrious!

But he says/brings many cases of Ameira L’acum that he is Matir in situations of Tzorech Godol. Check it out!

    Yes, you are.

    No, it’s very relevant.

“If you would have asked Reb Moshe your Shaila if you could ask a Goy to turn on your crockpot, he would have answered NO!”

Well I think, if he was here -this is what he’d answer:

I personally wouldn’t tell the goy to turn it on, but many have been Maikil like the Rema in cases of Tzorech Godol to do Ameira L’acum!

I don’t understand this. What did the Doc give him -PVK? This could be switched to Amoxil chewables.

“He told me forcing him by holding his hands tight like this morning was how he wanted to take the medicine lol.”

It is wrong to hold down an older kid. It’s very traumatic.

“He even agreed to get a shot instead, but I’m not up to taking him to the doc daily for 10 days. (I’m sure though after the first injection he would have changed his mind.)”

Is this what your Doc told you or did you make this up?

Had you asked your Doc -he/she would have told you for Strep Throat you can give one shot of Penicillin G, not 10.

Here is the drug dosing from emedicine.com:

Sam2 -“Health: You probably have to redefine Zionists (or at least tell us what you think the definition is). I think the majority of Zionists left now (unless you count all contributing Israeli citizens as Zionists) are the religious Zionists.”

That’s exactly what I’m doing -“(unless you count all contributing Israeli citizens as Zionists)” – Minhag Avosayhem Beyedayhem, even though it means nothing to them.

“The secular Zionists got what they want. They got a national homeland for Jews. They don’t have any reason to exist anymore.”

But unfortunately most are still there, even though some have emigrated to US, Canada, Britain, France, Germany, India and I think even Thailand.

“Most of the people nowadays with a real love and desire for Eretz Yisrael (and who want to help with the Medinah as part of that) are the Dati Le’umi/religious Zionists.”

So about calling your group Eretz Yisroel lovers or something like that? Calling yourself Zionists doesn’t let anyone know what type of philosophy you have – Do you agree with Zionist Kofrim or do you agree with the Torah’s philosophy. There has to be no misunderstanding that your philosophy is against Kefira and other bad Hashkofos. A good way to do this is to take a new name and not use the name of a group started by Kofrim!

Sorry this isn’t the same as saying it’s a Minhag Shtus and it’s Ossur Gomor. A Chumra -is just that!

“again, no “in Europe we were Machmir”, it was everyone’s minhag”

And again – A Chumra -is just that!

“he wasn’t matir, just kept quiet”

The Piskei Hilchos Shabbos doesn’t learn like you and I don’t know anybody who does! E/o says R. Moshe was Matir time clocks by lights!

“your crockpot where there is no minhag, he would clearly asser!!!”

    Who said?

“also, real amira l’akum, he would asser, just clocks not!”

Again who said? He might be Machmir like he says in the Teshuva over here, but he wouldn’t hold it’s Ossur Gomor!

Health: Assuming I remember the T’shuvah correctly (I think I do, though it’s always possible that I’m wrong) he explicitly says that there must be some reason for lights being Muttar because that’s what’s Nahug but he doesn’t know what that reason is.”

Where does he say this? Not in my Teshuva.

“If Rav Moshe thought the reason was his aforementioned Rama, he would have said so.”

He did and that’s what Mekol Mokom means!

“And it’s very clear that Rav Moshe is only Mattir lights because it was already Nahug, not because he thought there was some given reason for it. If it wasn’t Nahug already, Rav Moshe wouldn’t have said they were Muttar.”

But my point is -if this Minhag based on the Rema was a Minhag Shtus -how in the world could he be Matir time clocks for lights?

Why? Give me a reason acc. to Torah.

“With that said, they are not kofrim.”

    Most Tzionim are Kofrim.

“Rav Schachter is the biggest zionist in the western hemisphere. Is he a kofer?”

There are exceptions to every rule!

“There are many people who are zionist. If some are kofrim (I, not having met any kofer-tzioni people, have no right to suggest that some exist.”

And almost all of them (zionists) are Kofrim. Zionists make up a good portion of the Israeli population. As far as I know the demographics of Israel has Not yet changed and most of the pop. are Frei & Kofrim!

Feif Un -“popa, while you say a welfare system removes the reasoning, I have to disagree with you. My brother told me that there are people in Lakewood who teach you how to get WIC, Food Stamps, and other government programs when you really don’t qualify for them. I think the welfare system causes MORE stealing, not less.”

This is pure Motzay Shem Ra on a Frum Yid trying to help out other Yidden get what they are entitled to. There is a feeling amongst a lot of people that Frum Yidden have no right to take Gov. programs. Now why is that? Is it because they feel Frum Yidden shouldn’t be poor in the Goldene Medina? Are they ashamed of their poor Brethen? Well if this is the case, let them start giving more Tzedaka to poor Jews and they wouldn’t need to take all these gov. programs!

And since I’ve been here the gov. has gotten much stricter with their programs. They (the Feds) even changed the whole HUD/ Section 8 regulations because they didn’t like what some Frum Yidden were doing in Lakewood with those regs that were on the books. To me that is classic Antisemitism!

hello99 -“Actually, your quote is selective and out of context. Reb Moshe in 4:60 was only lenient on a Shabbos clock, not a true Amira l’Akum. Furthermore, he explicitly differentiates between lights where there is already a Minhag to be lenient, and he is not capable of forbidding it, and other appliances. He clearly writes that it is wrong to rely on the Itur and the Minhag in Europe was to be stringent.”

    You are misconstruing it.

Quote: “And it’s Mashma (from the Rema) that in a case of Tzorech Godol it’s (Ameira L’acum) is Mutter. So even though it’s fitting to be Machmir and in our community in Europe we were Machmir, BUT since there are many that were Matir (Ameira L’acum) and this was the Minhag in many places -I’m not going to Assur time clocks where they are already using them.”

You see clearly – he didn’t have a problem with people being Somieach on Ameira L’Acum B’mokom Tzorech Godol. He personally had the Minhag not to be Soimeach on this Rema, but he didn’t think people who were Somieach on it were being Oiver an Issur D’rabbonon. If he did, he never would have used it to be Matir time clocks. He held at the beginning to use time clocks (on Shabbos) is definitely Ossur. So what changed by lights? Why can time clocks be used to turn on & off lights? Because some Avaryonim acc. to you, used a Heter from the Rema which you can’t be Somieach on? So you see clearly R. Moshe didn’t want to use this heter himself, but he used it to be Matir time clocks. I’ll repeat – he must of held there is something to this Heter and that’s why he said you can use time clocks for lights.

Avi K -“1. The government has faults but is not anti-Tora and/or anti-Gd.”

Maybe they aren’t Anti, but they have no regards for Frum people and accommodating them to keep the Torah. The most recent example is not letting soldiers leave when women are singing. You just are Naive & believe everything that Zionists say. It’s not discrimination on women to have men walk out during singing. Discrimination would be Not letting them sing at all. The only ones whom the Zionists are discriminating against are the Frum soldiers!

“2. Living in EY oppposes the forces of secularism by denying them a free hand. Becoming a citizen and voting helps to improve things.”

You don’t know this for a fact -they are still the majority. I can tell you one thing -if they force all Frum males to go to the army -a lot of Frum Jews will move out of EY. This will make the Tzionis lose the only real protection that they have -namely Men sitting and learning Torah all day!

Do you read the News? Until a few months ago they even liked Israelis, until the incident with their ship. They were allies. They treated the Jews quite well when they controlled Palestine. So the hatred to even Zionists is quite recent. There is no reason to carry this over to all Jews. Zionism IS NOT Judaism!

I never talked about living there -I talked about being a Tzioni that supports a Frei gov.! I do know the reasons and there are many. A big one is the Tzionim based their Medina on Kefira!!!

“Yes, Herod made the Second Beis Hamikdash.”

So what? Was he building it for Hashem or for himself?

The Tzionim made this Medina for themselves, not for Hashem whom they don’t believe in.

“that can be dangerous (even life-threatening, such as aspiration).”

Yes Aries -I agree with Doc Feivel. This isn’t a good idea. I have forced my kids to take meds as I explained to computer 777.

Putting it all the way back will either have them choke or they will activate their gag reflex and throw the whole thing up. What I did to my kids during the “terrible twos” & sometimes these “terrible twos” last to 4-6 years of age – I’d hold them down and pour the medicine into their mouth. So what is to stop them from spitting it out? Simply, because as soon as I poured it in – I squeezed both sides of the mouth together. This prevents a spitting. The medicine goes all over inside the mouth and when it hits the back -Wha-lah -the epiglottis kicks in and they swallow it.

computer777 -“There is a tread how to swallow pills. How about how do you get a kid to take medicine that doesn’t taste so good?”

Most of these liquids taste great. Try another company. Also if the kid is old enough to chew -they make delicious chewables.

“The only thing that worked is someone holding his hands down, and forcing him to take it.”

Now I’ve done this when my kids were very young because there is that stage of No/No, no matter what you say – stage. It had nothing to do with taste. If your kid is older, I would not do this. This will traumatize him. Either do the chewable or go to the Doc for a shot. Sometimes just threating the shot will magically have the kid drink the drug.

    yentingyenta -“i’ll do it.”

Yay -you get a star for being the first one to jump in. * 🙂

    Hopefully others will join too.

I made these first two scenarios easy for students.

“pt 2 is not stable. first step is to maintain a patent Airway (abc’s). suction, ambu-bag, o2, call for help etc.”

Correct, but I’m just going to Mefarish your words a little.

Check for unresponsiveness (Tap & shout). Maybe the pt. isn’t really unconscious. Next call for help. (If unconscious.) Open airway, place OPA. Check for breathing. If not breathing or not breathing adequately give rescue breaths. This should be done with whatever you have on you or next to you. It could be a pocket mask or a CPR shield or a BVM/Ambu bag. Check for pulse. This case the pt. has one. (So I don’t have to go down the whole protocol.) 🙂

Hopefully by now the troops have gathered and whomever does the intubation in your facility has been alerted. (Usually Anethesia or Respiratory therapy.)

“first pt is stable and not acutely having a problem. i would explain that she is not the only pt under my care, other pts need care right now but i will be back as soon as i can”

Remember I’m not here to criticize, but I’m just critiquing for learning purposes. You got as far as the first four words and after that nothing else is correct. Either you didn’t read case #1 so carefully or you became defensive. You don’t have to tell me. Either way -this is the next step. – First thing I’d say -“No I’m sorry -I really don’t know how long you have been waiting, but we have to go in order and treat the most serious pts. first. But the good news is -I’m here to help you now.” Remember you were sent to assess the pt. You can’t say -I’ll be back later or by her obnoxiousness know whether she has an acute problem or not.

The next step is to ask -“What made you come to the hospital today”? Chief Complaint, then HPI, then Sample History & so on & so on.

“and what would you do now that i gave my answer?”

    This question -I don’t understand.

Hey I agree with you and insult people. So I understand why you insulted me. But recently the Mods don’t let me post even a small insult. So they can’t treat me one way & others a different way -this is a double standard.

“Pure nonsense. Prove it. You can’t.”

Prove what? That Hashem will never let any Goy touch us again? Sorry, can’t do that -I’m not a Navi!

“Even if they were lovers of Jews (which they are certainly not) one can NEVER trust other nations.”

Really? So how do Jews right now survive in many countries around the world? How many Jews were killed on purpose in the US the last 50 years? And how many Jews were killed on purpose in Israel in the last 50 years?

“Happened too many times! I can tell you of individuals who married goyim and were turned in by their loving spouses in germany. I can tell you tons of stories of beloved Jewish advisers who were thrown into prison for love turning to hate.”

So what do you think the moral of these stories are? Ok -let me guess. That we should arm ourselves to the hilt and fight the 70 nations with our “Koach V’ozem Yodi”, right?

How about this? We should keep the Torah & the Mitzvos and do Teshuva and Hashem will bring the Geulah? And even if he doesn’t want to right now, at least it will most likely protect us against their violence towards us. Simple concept, no?

Look I’m not going to look up all these Achronim just to prove you wrong -I’ll take your word at it. But I don’t know what R. So I have R. Moshe & the Debrecener that Matir -that is good enough for me. These are Basrah Poskim from the last generation. And I’m sure they knew all the Shittos at least as well as you. And still R. Moshe was Matir in at least one instance & the Debrecener in many instances.

Avi K -“On the contrary, although the Chafetz Chaim obviously opposed secularism he supported the essence of Zionism in his time: buying land in EY and making aliya (Letters to his son Reb Ayeh Leb HaCohen pg. 43-44). The Gra, Chatam Sofer, Netziv, Avnei Nezer, Sefat Emmet and Ohr Sameach (who contributed to the JNF) also supported the essentials of Zionism.

It is a postive mitzva to establish a state as has already been proven here. This is a milchemet mitzva (obligatory war) as set forth explicitly by Ramban (Rambam apparently includes it in the mitzva of living here). The rest is up to succeeding generations.”

These Mitzvos are just that – Mitzvos. This is not what these Rabbonon supported -namely secular Zionism. Can’t you see the difference? The Gedolim from the previous generation did. They – like the Chofetz Chaim said you have to keep away from secular Zionism. Stop defending these Kofrim with what Dinim apply to the land of EY!

Hakatan- I agree with everything you say , but this:

“Regarding the latter, there is no question that the State of Israel exists and that since they have (foolishly) assumed responsibility (sad as that has been) for so many of our brethren, they cannot simply pack their bags.”

Who says? Maybe the Turks will take it, if offered?

They never hated Jews and until recently they even liked the State of Israel.

You’ll see – you will get this hip replacement and you’ll be almost back to new. In a few years -this whole ordeal will be a long forgotten memory!

Sam2 -“Would the Be’er Moshe allow that?”

To be honest, I don’t know. I don’t recall that Rav Moshe said using a timer for A.C. is a Chumra -I could be wrong. Could you quote him?

I heard that the Velt didn’t follow him on everything. They sometimes did like the Poiskim who argue on him like the Debrecener.

If you ever read any of my posts -you would know that I said the Turks should take over.

“NOTHING can justify the cold-blooded murder of our own brothers and sisters— whether you approve of their political beliefs or not.”

You started using recent terrorist attacks to push your political beliefs. This is an old tactic and only fools that want to be fooled -fall for this. Noone ever justified killing of innocents, no matter how you twist our words. All I did was blame the Tzionim along with the terrorists!

“This must be the kind of sinat chinam that keeps Moshiach from coming.”

You mean facts like people like you who keep twisting our words to make us look bad. Yes, this is typical Sinas Chinum.

Abelleh -“But Health, you still never made an argument; the Stamir position is very hard to understand in light of the Balfour Declaration and the UN’s Decision to grant the Jews a homeland in 1948”

For the second time I’m not Satmar, even though I agree with their position on the Medina. But you have to read a lot to understand their Shittos -try reading those two Seforim I mentioned.

I’m sure you don’t mean it, but you are very ignorant when it comes to the history. There was a Balfour Declaration, but the antisemite British balked on implementing it. They just pulled out of Palestine without giving it to anyone. The Zionists at that time decided to establish a State in the vacuum. Whether they did it because they were scared of the arabs and that they might take over or they saw an opportunity or both -I don’t know. But starting a country on your own caused an extreme hatred from the Goyim, esp. the arabs.

YW Moderator-72 -“… and with that he has squarely aligned himself with Mahmaoud’s Rebbi and the rest of the nk because as everyone knows the goyim LOVED the Jews throughout the time when we were exiled up until November 1947. They adored us. They held us in the highest esteem and hardly ever bothered us throughout the ages. When they did pester us – it was always against the Zionist element and not against the rest of the Yidden. Countries welcomed us with open arms and made us feel right at home…”

First of all, I’m not NK or Satmar for that matter.

“I for one am sick of the argument that the Zionist is the cause of the hatred that the goyim have for Jews. I guess the concept of esav hates Yaakov means nothing to the health and the rest of his ilk. face it health and the rest of the nk – esav hates us. They hate: chareidim, Litvish, MO, non-observant, Zionists and anti-zionists. They don’t care about our style of dress or type of head covering we wear.”

You seem or deliberately forget that Esau hates Yaakov everywhere

like here in the US. So how come here the Goyim aren’t trying to kill us everyday like in Israel? Perhaps the hatred is greater over there because of what the Tzionim did and are doing now?

MODS – I must protest the double standard. Because of a few complaints -No post of mine with the slightest insult is put through. I have no problem with this. But this poster has been insulting me since I started posting here and you aren’t deleting the posts. Why the different treatment? Because he used to be a MOD?

You see this is what happens when people like “writersoul” pull out emotions to further their political beliefs. You got all emotional and put words into my mouth which I never said. I never blamed the victims. I blamed the Tzionim. (Ya know the guys who started the Medina.) But when emotions are high -judgment is low! You actually were Choset B’kesharim!

If you are talking about the Debrecener -you should know he was a Baal Plukta of Rav M. Feinstein.

Just want to see something – Do you or your immediate family use timers on Shabbos to turn on & off air conditioners & the like?

The Psakim I quoted comes from Piskei Hilchos Shabbos Vol. 3 & 4. It has an index. What the Mechaber of this Sefer did was ask a bunch of Shailos to the Debrecener and he gave short answers. A lot of these are printed in the Sefer, but the main part of the Sefer is Hebrew & English – Shailos & Teshuvos. Some of this comes from those Shailos, some comes from the Sefer Baer Moshe, some come from Rav Moshe Feinstein zt’l and some comes from S’A.

These Teshuvos seem to come from the Sefer itself where he doesn’t give any explanations. It could be a lot of this he does have in his Sefer Baer Moshe and it could be there he explains his reasoning. But as far as helping you here -you’re on your own. I don’t know if he talks about Ameira L’acum in Baer Moshe (so I don’t have any idea where it would be) and even if he does I don’t know if he explains his reasoning.

writersoul- “Health, did you cry less about the Fogel family because they were Zionists? The boys at Merkaz Harav?”

A good portion of the bloodshed lies squarely on the hands of the Tzionim. They Raitzed on the Goyim by making a Medina -thereby increasing their hatred and subsequently their violence ten-fold!
