You don’t have to take it in Touro. Touro has two programs -one in the city & one in Long Island. Also, the few schools that give it in NJ, are all under UMDNJ. The problem with taking it in NJ is 3 + 3. In other words, you need 3 years college, then you need 3 years PA. You can still find programs in the city, where you can probably do it with a total of 4 years or a little bit more. Touro has a web site with info -Touro.edu. Downstate & Pace offers also. There are a lot more, but these are the ones that I know that have frum students.

Bozo – “so is there a need for pa in lkwd?” What does this mean?

Do you have any idea what a PA is? A PA works under the license of a physician. Currently, I know of three frum PA’s working in Lakewood. 2 working at 2 different Pediatricians and one working in Dermatology.

    To sam,

It’s not RESPONSIBLE to go on such a diet. Also, just because the man died- you don’t give him credit anymore?- it’s called the Atkin’s diet. The Atkin’s diet has been proven that it works, but it falls under the catergory of Fad diets. There are a lot of inherent problems with this diet. It has more side effects than statins. You can’t be on this diet for too long, that’s why it’s called “fad”. Do you know another name for fat? It’s triglycerides, which can cause all the problems that cholesterol causes. Also, if you aren’t a diabetic, this diet can make you one. There are more than this, you can do a net search. Dr. Atkin’s developed this diet for his non-responsive diabetics. Nowadays, they have so many drugs for diabetics, if one doesn’t work- there is another. The consensus nowadays is to be on a food plan (Not “diet” -which connototes short-term) that has low fat & not a lot of carbs. Let’s hear from our Health/Nutrition experts we have on this site, who are always putting down Medicine, what we should eat on our food plans. By chance, Chance are you out there?

Chance- Did you get a Chance to vaccinate your kid yet?

I tend to think you were the one brainwashed, not me! As far as I know, Tylenol and Benadryl are on the market, just that they removed a few lots. To explain- how drugs work in the body, would take too long. Even a basic pharm course in college, would take a whole semester. But, by all means, if you have a specific question, go ahead and post it. Also, drugs don’t work the opposite of the homeopathic theory of like cures like -reproduce the symptoms and that cures the disease. The drug doesn’t suppress the symptoms, but works at the molecular level to correct the problem(s).

AOM -You can use Niacin alone for lowering your numbers. A drug doesn’t have to work for everybody, some people will get lower numbers out of it. There is a few reasons that clinicians usually prescribe the statins first.

Here or there- Make up your mind already- here or there?

Now you might not like the laws in this country, I definitely don’t like some of them, but that has nothing to do with marketing a product that doesn’t work. The red yeast that YOU buy in your health-food stores aren’t effective in lowering cholesterol. Stop wasting your money. If you bought red yeast in Asia, then that product might work.

AinohdMilvado -You are mistaken. Next time, do a more thorough web search. Niacin lowers total chol., lowers LDL, lowers triglycerides and also raises HDL.

Here or there -the reason I listed the source of medicinenet -was that you should look it up. You health-eccentrics sound silly with all your conspiracy theories.

Here is the rest of the reason from the FDA quoted in Medicinenet: “First, statin drugs are associated with muscle and kidney injury when used alone or combined with other medications. There is concern that patients who already take statin drugs with or without these other medications may increase their risk of muscle or kidney injury.

Second, the FDA considers the products containing red yeast rice with high levels of cholesterol lowering substances to be new, unapproved drugs for which marketing violates the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.”

    To chance and other naturalists,

Sorry to burst your bubble on red rice yeast, but it seems that the naturalists are the ones trying to make money on products that don’t work, not big Pharma. Here is a quote from Medicinenet:

“Small scale studies using pharmaceutical-grade red rice yeast have continued to demonstrate efficacy and safety. However, in the United States it is no longer legal to sell supplements of red yeast rice that contain more than trace amounts of cholesterol lowering substances. For example, the active ingredients of red rice yeast have been removed from Cholestin marketed in the United States. (Hypocol, another product containing red yeast rice is no longer being sold in the United States.)

The reasons the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has ruled that it is illegal to sell red yeast rice that contains more than trace amounts of the cholesterol-lowering substances and to promote red yeast rice for lowering cholesterol levels. Etc…”

Fish oil is good to use and many clinicians do prescribe it. As for Niacin (a B vitamin), even though it is sold over the counter and does work to lower your numbers, you should only take it if your doctor prescribes it. The reason is -it can have side effects and if your doctor puts you on it, he/she will monitor you for these possible problems!

To First Timer -It beats me why anyone would take an EMT course who isn’t planning on working on an ambulance (or nowadays some hospitals have ER techs). A couple years ago I needed X amount of credits for my semester requirement, so I decided to take a First Aid course to meet this requirement. I didn’t tell anyone that I was previously trained as a medic. How these kids put in their all to do everything correctly, I was very surprised. I would say these kids in my class trained only in First Aid knew more first aid, than almost any EMT I know! It’s what you do to the patient that counts, not the number of letters after your name!

    To YWM 80,

I don’t understand why you are confusing the issue. My original post was answering some bored guy’s question -not defining light-years! All I am proving from Wikipedia is that light takes TIME to travel. Only things with mass will lose the concept of TIME, if they travel at the speed of light!

    To all,

Go back and reread my answer to his question. You will see that what I’m saying makes sense.

    To Wolf,

Read this physics archive that says -it might not really gain mass. Also some say photons actually do have mass, but are infitismly small and therefore can travel at the speed of light or more. (As I quoted a German experiment previously.):

“Question: How does mass increase when you approach the speed of light?

Answer 1: This question addresses Einstein’s theory of Special Relativity.

If my answer does not satisfy you, there are many clear books on

the topic in any university bookstore.

When a particle/object travels close to the speed of light, and is

thus considered “relativistic”, the energy of the particle is

expressed as E = (gamma)*mass*velocity. Here gamma is a relativistic

factor that is greater than unity. So, one could consider the

factor (gamma)*mass a new mass, one that is larger than the mass

of the particle when it is at rest. This is why you hear that

mass increases when you approach the speed of light. It can be

argued that it is only an appearance of greater mass, or that it

depends on how you look at the problem. In short, it is all relative. 😉

It should be noted, however, that in order for an object to actually

reach the speed of light, it must have no mass, since E=mass*speed of

light^2. This is true of massless particles such as the photon,

the “particle” that transports light. (Notation:* means multiply by

    and ^2 means squared).”

    To YWM-80,

It’s also denoting a certain amount of time. It takes time for the light emitting from that planet or star to be seen here on Earth.

To the wolf and who ever’s bored,

I did a net search about this. First of all, a couple of years ago, a few German scientists got some photons to move faster than the speed of light. And I stand corrected, at the speed of light there is no time for matter, but since light has no matter, it still would be considered within “time”. (Because of this, no one has got anything with mass to go the speed of light, because it would require an infinite amount of energy. Also, the mass would be infitismly small.) LIGHT- It was there a little bit ago -now it’s here. It was there 10 light years ago -now it’s here; so we can see that star or whatever. Do a net search – there are a lot of easy explanations of his theories to be found. I’m so happy my college didn’t require me to have Physics.

Someonesbored -I think he said that beyond the speed of light there is no time, but at the speed of light there is time. This theory makes sense how in the next world there is no such thing as time. Time is a creation from Hashem like everything else.

This is probably a bad idea, being that this might be years from now and at that time he might already have a chronic disease chas’vs. The best thing is to encourage him now to quit. Tell him to go to his doctor, as there are many medications to help people quit smoking.

The first poster said he/she got paid $175 -200 for the month. Let’s say it was $200 and they only work 5 hours a day (unlikely). 5 * 5 days = 25. 25 * 4 weeks = 100. Chesedname- I know in the frum community they never stop anything that’s legal EG.- they aren’t trying to stop the internet, they didn’t stop a concert, etc… I could go on & on, but YWN would never give me that much space. Comparing smoking to eating steak is ridiculous -eating steak is only dangerous if you over-eat. As far as alcohol consumption, it is only a problem in some shuls mainly in Flatbush. Not worldwide like smoking. As far as I know, the leaders of those shuls are trying to end excess drinking. First of all, there are mainy poskim who say smoking is Ossur period. And even R’ Moshe Z”tl said it was Ossur to start, even though he Mattered to continue. I wouldn’t call this “clearly it’s not”. Also R’ Moshe Z”tl, if we would be alive nowadays might hold it’s Ossur to smoke -being that there are now drugs to get you off the addiction. Also, how can you say smoking doesn’t affect other people? They have proved that second-hand smoke is dangerous. This you don’t even know whether R’ Moshe Z”tl would Mater because they didn’t know this when he was alive. Also, I didn’t call on the Leaders to Assur it completely (Tephasta meruba lo tephasta), just to stop it in Yeshivos!

BTW, I really don’t know anything that is worse than smoking. It causes a slow and painful death by most people.

Information collected by organizations like AGRE is freely shared with the research community. Their raw data is leading to a greater understanding of the relationship between heredity and autism.

Chance -you’re 100% (almost) wrong. I actually posted other things to you, but it was deleted. All drugs or vaccines don’t have side effects -they have the possibility of having side effects. Most will never have a side effect. If you do experience a side effect, you should contact your physician. The doc will either continue the med, change the med, or stop the med. You shouldn’t do this on your own. Your father’s case is rare. The doc opted to treat the side effect as opposed to stopping the original med.
