@Yochy — The reason I called it a theory was because I didn’t want the discussion too focused on debating the Age Gap reality. I wanted to more discuss the Musical Chairs that is the net effect of the Age Gap.

Lilmod, regarding an Arab or any goy, there’s certainly no concept or benefit of tinok shenishba. A gentile who does an aveira even completely b’shogeg is completely chayiv no less than b’meizid. Obviously we’re only discussing Yidden in this context.

    Best advice: Get married young.

Worst advice: Wait before jumping into marriage.

America Should Trade Taiwan for North Korea

North Korea is a threat to world peace and a nuclear menace to the United States. Bill Clinton allowed North Korea to get away with a nuclear build out. Hopefully Donald Trump will put an end to North Korea’s nuclear capabilities by either, preferably, getting them to surrender their nukes — or, in the absence of that, going to war with North Korea before they develop ICBM’s that can successfully deliver nukes to the US mainland.

While the latter case will unfortunately bear a significant cost in lives, better for that war to take place on the Korean peninsula and that area of the world than to wait long enough that the NK madmen can take American lives on American soil with nuclear weapons.

A fine is indeed not a good idea. An arrest to remove the offender from the public to prevent further offense would be a more appropriate response.

@bk613 — Great question. If it isn’t accompanied by the boys also marrying younger, it will. If it is accompanied by the boys, it won’t. But even in the former case where it will worsen it overall from a societal viewpoint, an individual girl (and her parents) will still benefit themselves and reduce their exposure to the risk by marrying younger (even if it is unhelpful from a societal view.)

ubiquitin: Was the U.S. not a democracy until Jim Crow was repealed in the 1960s? The blacks were not considered to be slaves or property under Jim Crow, but nor were they considered to be equals to whites.

I don’t believe democracy is predicated on equality. Equality is a newer thing. Democracy long predated it,

ubiquitin: This thread is premised on accepting the age gap theory. If you don’t accept it (which is an entirely fine opinion), this discussion is irrelevant to you. I do think that the age gap theory is widely accepted as indeed being the case in the Litvish and MO communities.

Was the United States a democracy before the Civil War? Was the United States a democracy before the Jim Crow laws were dismantled in the 1960s?

What if every week a person kills two people and literally saves the lives of five people who would’ve been killed otherwise (by someone else). Every week, repeatedly.

Does his saving more than double the number of people he kills mean he’s a tzaddik?

Who said a key factor of democracy is equality? Was America not a democracy when it was founded and had slavery? It very much was a democracy then. And clearly equality is certainly not a “key factor” of democracy.

My point in that analogy was regarding someone who specifically delays shidduchim and marriage. Considering the widely acknowledged “age gap” specifically posits that there’s more girls than boys in the shidduch scene and that there aren’t enough boys to marry all the girls, why is the analogy off?

Mammele: The very Chasidish mosdos typically charge a pittance in tuition when compared to Litvish mosdos. (Forget about the arm and leg charged by MO schools.) It would seem unlikely tuition would cause this among Chasidim. That leaves housing. Is housing costs really quantifiably affecting family size in KJ and NS?

While on topic, in your estimation what are the ranges and what are the averages for family size (for families completed bearing children) between the various neighborhood/locations, progressiveness and groups?

More insulated communities are not nearly as familiar with Hollywood and all the shmutz “marriages”in general society that poisons personal marriages of those that become influenced from society. Hence their greater happiness and lower divorce rate.
