Ruach Hakodesh certainly exists. The Chofetz Chaim had Ruach Hakodesh and there are tzadikim today that have it. (Sorry, my lips are sealed in naming any.)

Common folks don’t have it. But some common folks fool themselves into thinking they experienced it.

They can aspire to have it by earning it by becoming a tzadik.

I told you that the article was not my source; it merely observed a somewhat similar phenomenon so I referenced it even though my point remains even without that article’s existence.

I don’t agree that Trump condones them. But Obama certainly condoned black racists. It started before he was President, as a member of Jeremiah Wright’s racist congregation and continued as president with his acceptance and endorsements of all sorts of black racists like Sharpton (diamond merchants), Jackson (hymietown) and Farrahkan (white blood suckers).

Darchei Torah offers 2 and half hours, four days a week, of secular studies. And their students achieve among the highest Regents exam marks in NYS.

Yet according to the NYSED, Darchei Torah students are truants. Since they don’t have 17.5 hours a week.

Avi, multiple top Israeli generals have clearly stated on the record that the Israeli military has more than enough soldiers and personnel as is, and does not need as many draftees at they’re already receiving — let alone to draft additional people who were heretofore exempt.

NCB: Among otd people, there’s a notably greater proportional representation of children of bt’s. (In fact, there’s a recent article in Tablet called Baal Teshuvah: The Next Generation that makes this same point, which is not where I noticed this phenomenon, but may have some [definitely not completely] accurate points.) But that wasn’t my main point, only a side point making the original point that even among observant/Orthodox bt’s — and their children, to a lesser extent but still greater extent than overall — you’ll find a proportionally greater acceptance of certain/specific more liberal positions (that are fully accepted/standard beliefs among general secular society) than you’ll find elsewhere in the Orthodox community.

And, again, not by all or even most bt’s. But it is proportionally more likely than by other Orthodox folks.

I think it is hard to fully give up an entire mindset when becoming frum. And if one didn’t fully give it up they’ll likely transmit some form of it to their children. To again stress, it may be a minority but it is still a greater proportion of that community than you’ll find in the overall Orthodox, especially Chareidim.

I’m trying to differentiate between comparative likelihood (Group A compared to Group B) and plain likelihood.

NCB — I hear your criticism and you have a point. Nevertheless, I do think that with that demographic there is a greater protensity to have some opinions that are off the grid compared to the mainstream positions of the Torah community, as compared to people who hail from a strong unbroken mesorah. Again, propensity not likelihood. Even within that demographic they mostly do not suffer from this type of malaise.

Similarly, you’ll also notice this phenomenon in that among otd groups there’s a greater propensity (not likelihood) that those from a less stronger Orthodox mesorah are more likely to fall into compared to those from families with an unbroken Orthodox chain.

So I agree with your overall point but think my point has validity as well. Perhaps I put it too starkly.

So what? Felder is no worse off now than had he officially been a Republican all along. The Republicans will be giving him minority chairs, as they do for other Republican senators.

Felder smartly milked his power for all it was worth when he was THE ONE deciding member. And he’s lost nothing now as a result.

Even with the clarification from NYSED about 17.5 hours, almost every Yeshivish (non-Chasidish) Yeshiva is still way behind the newly clarified minimum number of hours. Even yeshivos like Darchei Torah, that does much better in standardized testing than the local public schools, has four 40 minute periods between 2:30-5:30, four days a week, totalling 10.67 hours a week.

Thus despite doing much better than public schools, these regulations would require the Yeshiva to add over 65% more hours than they currently offer. This for students who already have a very very long school day, on a six day school week.

Thereby forcing the Yeshivas to either eliminate almost 7 hours of Torah study every week or add to an already heavy schedule on young children.

gg: There’s a silly comment. An illegal curb cut is unavailable to the public for parking 24/7 even if the homeowner only uses it a few hours a day for himself. So it remains empty and unused whereas had there been no curb cut other people could park there when the homeowner wasn’t parked there.

    17.5 hours/week required.

Most Litvish yeshivos offer less than 10 hours a week. Darchei Torah, which wipes the floor compared to public schools, English hours are 2:30-5:15, with breaks, four days a week.

Gamanit: A tell-tell of illegal driveways is when you see two driveways right next to each other. Regulations prohibit two driveways from being too close. And the old houses virtually never had two driveways close to each other, as the old house were more spaced out than the new homes. Another tell-tell, as mentioned earlier, is when the curb cut leads to a spot in front of the home, rather than to the side or a backyard garage. And another is when the curb isn’t cut but there’s still signs in front of the house saying Do Not Block Driveway or something of the like. Or when there’s yellow paint in front of a non-driveway.

My mistake: The Litvish yeshivos offer less than 3 hours/day (12 hours/week).

Darchei Torah, for example, 7th grade secular studies begins at 2:30 and ends at 5:15. And they have breaks in between. Four days a week. That’s less than 10 hours/week of class time.

That’s Darchei Torah that does much better than NYC public schools. And, yet, NYSED wants to force them to almost double their secular time to 17.5 hours/week. Under the newly clarified regulations today.

The newly clarified state educational requirements of 17.5 hours a week is far more than even the Litvish yeshivos give at 12 hours a week.

The ones legally grandfathered in are generally homes built decades ago and had a driveway back then. The homes built in the last 40+ years are subject to current regulations.

The more Chasidish schools generally give 2 hours a day/4 days a week of secular studies while the Litvish yeshivos (and some Chasidish yeshivos) generally give 3 hours a day/4 days a week. There isn’t a major difference between them; and that is wholly sufficient.

How can Teach NYS force any Yeshiva to be a member?

Regarding the law, we should — and are — petitioning the NYS legislature to loosen NY’s public school equivalence law to match the vast majority of other US states that have no such requirement on private schools.

The OU can join the Agudah and others in this holy mission.

Curb cuts going to a spot on the front lawn aren’t legal in NYC.

If a homeowner damages a car blocking an illegal curb cut, he runs the much greater risk of the car owner then damaging his home.

Amil: The New York Council of Catholic School Superintendents is the official arm of the Catholic Diocese that controls all 500 Catholic schools in New York State.

The superintendents have rejected the state’s guidelines and directed all of the state’s Catholic schools not to participate in “any review carried out by local public school officials.” Thus they will not allow NYS DOE evaluators entry into any of New York’s 500 Catholic schools to even make an evaluation.

The official website of the Archdiocese of New York put on a statement Friday reiterating their opposition, supporting the Catholic Superintendents announcement that they will refuse to participate in this state evaluation and even specifically lauding and backing Rabbi Brudny’s and Rabbi Reisman’s editorial in the Wall Street Journal announcing the Yeshiva’s oppose the state initiative as well.

To be fair, the people advocating *registering* the children in public school before the school year, wouldn’t actually *send* their kids to public school on the first day of school (or any other day). They’d just force the city to build out facilities and hiring teachers costing hundreds of millions of dollars.
