Tax services actually do need capital

    you need to hire workers

You cant really charge more than $100 to do someones taxes and it taxes a few hours of preparation with a client and an hour or 2 to do the taxes on the computer.

You also have to compete with people like myself who do it for free (I had to pay $50 for the software)

And then you have to make all your money for the year in 2-3 months or so and work nonstop during that time

I believe each franchise can set their own prices. Manhattan costs are higher than else where and I think those franchoses allow for higher prices there

I heard there was once a proposal for a Kosher McDonalds in Brookyn.

I am not sure why the proposal failed

There is a kosher Mcdonalds in Buenos Aires, Argentina so they do exist outside of Israel

I am not referring to Art Scroll translation of Neveim for example

I am talking about Art Scroll stand alone books like the rebbe Series , jewish themed novels other books solely written in english and not from a Hebrew translation.

There is English Lit and there is creative writing. I only took basic english and my writing is poor. its not my thing

I read many seforim in english and Ive read regular secular english books. the english of the seforim is many times terrible and irreadable.

Those who plan on writing seforim in english would do well to learn to write proper english writing and grammar skills

I never advocated getting a degree in English. I adocated more Accounting, Computer Science , Math or something that would help you get a decent job

And FYI there are opinions that studying things like math is NOT bittual torah and may even considered learning torah (I said some opinions, not every opinion)

There is a sefer called Josephun which is Josephus and the Vilna gaon wrote a math book (I think it was geometry) I saw a sefer written by a deciple of the Vilna Gaon about Euclidian Geometry

I do sell online, I have my own business doing so.

Which is why I know the pitfalls of owning your own business more than just random critizing. I know exactly what goes on the good and the bad and hard it is to really make it work

No one in their right mind would pay 150k down for a business they have to work at full-time 5 days a week that nets only 30k.

What if they think it’s got a lot of growth potential?

The main worth in any business is its client list, that is not easy to create. If a business has growth you dont need as much to buy a pre-existing business

Exactly what the P/E for a business is, I cant say for sure I never said i knew that number. I do know its between 10 and 1 so the better the gross revenue, the more you will pay for it

Maybe your family has $300,000 to invest in a business. Most people dont.

A year at Brooklyn college costs about $6000. meaning the degree will cost you $24,000. Sounds like a good investment to me. you will easily make back that money.

I went to a CUNY school so I know how cheap they are. I dont have one cent of college debt. it was cheap enough

Poverty has historically been the #1 reason people went OTD. Untold numbers converted to christianity because economic opportunities were limited being jewish (Most famously the families of Nostradamous and Benjamin Disraeli)

People then left the Shtels of eastern Europe for the US against the rabbanim because of economics.

Keeping people poor is not a gurnatee of success they will remain frum either

The problem with food businesses is Shabboses and Peseach. I think most kosher Donuts are not owned by jews. so these are not problems for them.

In general the most successful franchises are food businesses and they are not usually kosher so that is not really an option. There was Kosher Subway for a while, but they all failed.

There was also a Kosher Nathans Hot dogs for a while in brooklyn and that failed too

You are not going to get a pre-existing good business for $150,000

Any business is only worth its accounts and how much net profit it makes. a business that nets about $30,000 a year is maybe worth $150,000 which is not alot of money to make and live on. At 5 times P/E for $100,000 income you would need to spend $500,000 for a business.

that is alot of money to obtain, too much for most people

4 out of 5 new business fail in the US and you really need a minimum of $100,000-$200,000 to start one

Even a simple small storefront in NYC will cost you $5000 a month minimum. That is before any other single expense. Very few new stores can generate that kind of income

I can tell you if you do not go to college you have a 0% chance of being a doctor.

Some tests are meant to weed out people and some tests are meant to encourage everyone to succeed.

When people fail a test many times (not always) they give up. if more people would fail the Dirshu tests, then people would not do it. Failure can be very frustrating, the Acturary , CPA or bar exam is meant to weed out people

I have a degree in the Humanies (Along with a degree in the sciences..I have 2 degree)

and not all humanities are like Philosphy. I have a BA in History and there isnt much Apikorses there. I am not saying you should major in it, I just major in it because I like it and its my favorite discipline. But its not apikorsas. My real major was computers

I took many humanities courses like economics, English (Still stink at writing), and there wasnt much apikorsas or even discussion of relgion

CUNY schools are not really places where students socialize much. Most are commuters and many have part time jobs to pay for school. It is not the same as an out of town college where the students mostly dorm (There are some dorm at CUNY, but its few).

Since most are paying their own way, they tend to be more serious

Most people going to Brooklyn College learning about why its great to be an atheist and the communist manifesto

This shows great ignorance about college, most courses have nothing to do with Atheism or communism. Except for one course I took about Modern European History which required discussion of the Russian revolution, neither topic was discussed much. I dont think I ever heard anyone in any course discuss atheism

I wont say my opinion about movies for various reasons

But about an actual Averiah, JMO use your seichel on the averiah, Not all averiahs are equal and some it might be best to slide and others you need to stand up no matter what. If you see someone with a gun going on their way to kill someone, you most certainly should do whatever it takes to stop them. I would let it slide if some teen wants to watch the latest Star Wars movie. I dont think that leads to the road of OTDness

When dealing with people, you have to know how to handle them. Not everyone who watches a movie goes OTD

I cant say for sure, but my guess is these people were a bit on the margins and could have gone either way and when dealing with such people you need to be extra careful

4/5 new businesses fail in the US. Even with a good business plan, good businesses can faily because of outside factors unrelated to the business.

A simple example is Blockbuster video stores who were killed by Netflix. Walmart is getting killed by Amazon. Population moves and your core business moves. Your rents are increased beyond what you can afford to pay and so on

people have told me they were suspended given detention, fined and other punishements for seeing a movie, however these were not published in a book so I didnt post them and these people felt the punishment was unfair and they decided they werent interested in yiddishkeit and went OTD

The next day the principal of the school went into her classroom and opened a window and said there was a terrible stench in the room, because one of the girls had seen a movie. The Principle then pointed to the girl as being the terrible stench for seeing a movie

In the Faranak Margolese book, there are several examples of people given tochcha (Teens) for seeing a movie, the tochcha backfired and those teens are not religious today

The problem you dont seem to Ackknowledge that tochcha can backfire

A simple example. How many people have kept Shabbos because someone yelled shabbos at them . There have been protests against movie theaters open on Shabbos and when there are protests , more people showed up and most of those protested against , never closed and remain in business

In theory you are correct, however in reality tochhacha can backfire

If you know the person and think they will listen, then by all means give it, but if not only that wont listen, but will become hostile or worse, then dont give.If you dont know. Its best to avoid

Why do you need $50,000 worth of equipment?

After 10 tries the iPhone bricks itself and becomes unsuable, you need the equipment to trick the iPhone into allowing unlimited attempts. it has something to do with the chips that you have to reset

Maybe this yid was a very nervous flyer and could not really read a book (I personally get naseaus trying to read in a moving vehicle and cannot read on a plane or train) and did not want to disturb his fellow passengers so tried to use the onboard entertainment to keep himself calm and occupied

Occassionally I have travelled across the Atlantic. usually these flights leave in such a way that they fly overnight and you arrive at your destination in the AM. When Ive flown to Europe, after dinner most of the passengers are either watching the video or sleeping or watching the videos and falling asleep. the plane is pretty quite so you can sleep.

When I went to israel since most of the charedim did not watch the video they would get up from their seats , mull around the plane and talk to their friends. The plane was so loud you could not sleep. It was even louder than davening.

I dont know what this unknown chassid was doing or who he even was. But while watching the video might have disturbed himself. I really doubt other people cared. They just dont care, they do their own thing. However if he had gotten up and talked to his friend and kept up half the plane would that have been so much better?

There is a easy way to hack the iPhone (You need about $50,000) worth of equipment , You can use brute force and trust try every combination until you figure out the code and trick the phone into allowing you unlimited tries to figure it out. It take 2-7 days to do this

You seemed very upset about someone watching something on his screen and its not even clear what it was. There is a big differnce between PG and “Adult” movies and there is a great divide in-between, and of course you were reading Tehillim. It comes off as Holier than thou. The $22,000 was also too low for a BA in Philosophy (I dont know anyone who actually got a degree in Philosophy nor do I advocate getting a degree in Philosophy , Lingustics or a bunch of other useless degrees)

People who get BA degrees in the humanities dont usually go into those fields and are just trying to get into a regular job that requires a BA for entry level positions

So I suppose you would say wasting hours upon hours learning secular studies, MUCH of which is flat out apikorsus and biased while taking out student loans and putting your self in debt or paying a lot of money to learn such studies is better than saving your money and time?

Public Universities Like CUNY do not require loans, they are quite cheap. You can minimize Apikorsus by taking things like Math, Accounting and English (proper english writing is very important)
