Chassidish generally have more children because they get married younger

A chaddish woman usually gets married at 17 or 18. A yeshishvish 20-21

thats a 3 year or so head start and the ability to have 2 or 3 kids before the Yeshivish are even ready to start

When you get the state involved , you are asking people who do not live inside the district to pay. Most of them do not want to pay or want you to pay for something that they want. It is not a zero sum game

According to most Poskim you dont need to worry about erasing Hashem name from an electronic device. It is not considered his actual name but rather a digital reporesentation that looks like it.

Otherwise people would have a greater problem with hashem’s name in digital.

He didnt tell me, but I would like to think Hashem likes anyway (Ok almost anyway) his torah is learned and is not to particular as long as it was done L-shem shamayim

I am sure many thought the same thing about the Printing Press

They put Hashem’s name in the press and then erased the moveable type and then Seforim became able to be in most peoples home unlike before where only manuscripts existed and they were rare and hard to get

I am sure many said there is not ruchnius in a printed book as opposed to a manuscript where someone put alot of time and effort into writing it

Not everyone has the space or the money for alot of Seforim and for smaller print runs, E-books might be the solution for wider distribution.

Personally I dont like the small print especially of Rashi’s and Tosfot and I like being able to blow up the text

The telephone was a new invention in the time of the Choeftz Chaim and most did not have one in their house. I am sure the Chofetz Chaim would have had alot more to say against it had it become common place in his time and with all the Loshon haroh spoken with it

There is an evil device that has made more Apikoras , Prizus , Anti-semitism and more

Its called the PRINTING PRESS. Just think about how much Kefira and Prizus have been made due to this evil device and now its also easier for non jews to get a gemora and learn it (Oy R’L) because they are readily availble which was not the case before this evil device was invented. We need to stop printing books with this evil device and go back to the days of manuscripts to prevent this shanda

Most of the time when people use a smartphone for davening is not in a regular shul, but more of a makeshift minyan especially Mincha which many times are not held in shuls but in offices or other non-shul places.

Siddurim can be hard to come by

People also use them for Benching where benchers many times are not available

The difference between today and yesteryear is we know about things from places far away and have little to do with (on a personal level)

150 years ago if there was a fire in a shtel and a baby died (A common occurance) generally only the people in that shtel knew about it. Today if there is a fire 5000 miles away and a baby died, everyone knows about it and some use that and some sort of mussur

I took physics in College , 3 semesters and I dont think The big bang theory was mentioned even once and if it was mentioned , it was only for a lecture or 2. Most of Physics certainly is not Kefira, It was mostly equations about motion , gravity and stuff like that

Unfortunatly in todays industrial society, Tailors generally are not needed very much and are low paid. Most clothing today is made by machine or very low paid workers in a 3rd world country. Other than some alterations when i buy a suit, I have rarely if ever needed the use of a tailor

Evolution is only a small segment of Biology. They do not spend as much time on it as you think

There is also many times a foreign language requirement. You can use Hebrew for this (Yiddish would also be acceptable except most colleges do not teach it for lack of interest)

You have to take other courses which arent Kefira, but many here might think its wasteful (I do not) like English (Good reading and/or Writing is very important) or History (One can usually take Jewish History for this type of requirement. I dont know what people here think of taking Jewish History)

People really need to read general Holocaust history books. The situation for jews was not the same in every country and it depended on the relationship between the local government and the Nazis. The worst situation was a place where the Nazis controlled the government with their own miliary leader like in Poland

It was actually the safest for a jew to live in a country that was a Nazi Ally and those countries were generally safe until the Nazis were losing the war in 1943-1944 and some of them tried to switch sides (Hungary , Italy and Slovakia) .Unfortunatly some of the jewish leadership of Slovakia did not understand this dynamic and some just blamed the zionists . While their intentions were genuine they didnt understand the bigger picture

If you would read real history you would know that in Pre-war Europe the largest faction of jews was not the Zionists, but rather the Bundists. They were socialist non-relgious jews who insisted on gainging civil rights in their own countries, In fact the Zionists were actually the smallest group of Jews after the Bundists and the Charedis.

It was the Bundists who were the leaders of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising and it was the Bundists who got the largest vote in the Polish Parliment.

Of course, in a free society, everyone is entitled to their views. But, for Torah, there is only “eilu viEilu” for Torah-conforming views, which, as discussed, does not include Zionism. Your idolatry is not, CH”V, Torah.

While he might not be your rav , Rav Kook is definatly considered a Gadol. True many other Rabbanin did not like his Zionism, but they respected him on a personal level and did not allow ANY libels against him

Please explain the difference between “underlying hashkafa” and “pratical applications” when the gedolim clearly forbid moving to US, UK or Israel prior to WW II and disdaned (If not forbid) a non-jewish language the main source of communication BETWEEN JEWS .

If you are going to say the Halacha and hashkafa doesnt chamge, it clearly did there

    Of course sometimes hashkafos/ideology change.

Do you think a secular language (English) being the dominant language in the yeshivish world would have been tolerated in Europe? The hashkafa was to speak a jewish language which English certainly is not

It was AGAINAST all the gedolim to move to the United States before WW II. That was not a hashkafa, that was the halacha, Of course after the war such a halacha could not be kept anymore

Anything said before WW II must be taken in context, Whatever was said before the war , opinons charged after the war

Gedolim forbid leaving Europe for either The United States, Israel (And even Great Britain) before the war and obviously after the war they changed their minds.

There is no way to know if comments for example by Rav Elchanon Wasserman before the war would have changed his miond after the war. for example The Munchatcher Rebbe was a fierce anti-zionist, but after the war his son seeing the carnage seperated himself from Muncatch because he felt zionism was the correct path.

The Satmar Rebbe himself forbid his followers from leaving Hungry before 1939. Obviously after the war he changed his mind.

People who blame Mendelsohn for events happening in Europe at that time. The Haskallah was just a jewish version of the enlightenment and in general religion went on the decline in the western world starting in France and these trends just spread to the jewish community

Thats jews speak the local language instead of a “Jewish Language” is not something Medelsohn had a monopoly on. If he hadnt said it, someone else would have.

You cant legislate what language people speak especially if you live in a place where you deal with lots of people.

I just don’t understand why part of the public school teacher’s contract can’t be that they have to teach in the private schools in the afternoon.

That is actually a better idea than vouchers, however the yeshivas would never allow it, The yeshivas could decide who the teachers are , or tell them what to teach.

Theorically you could have an “alternate lifestyle” teacher teaching about evolution and there is nothing the yeshiva could do about it . (There are laws about discrimation regarding “Alternative Lifestyles” and you cant fire someone for it without breaking the law

Depends on the person and circumstances of the person whose funeral it is. Some you dont have to attend to, but others you must attend otherwise you will be seen and out of touch and inconsiderate. The attack for example in South Caroline at a church, if a frum jew was the mayor of that town there would have been a major outcry if he would not attend such a funeral.

If a police office was killed its another situation where you really must attend the funeral.

If it was just some murder on the street he doesnt need to attend

We can debate the protocol of the Chief Rabbi of The British Empire attending the Royal Wedding

But on a more local case, Say in lakewood, NJ a tragic event happens in a church like what happend in SC , the mayor of lakewood who is a frum jew cannot claim that it is against his belifs to attend some sort of service for the victims at the church, Well he could not attend, but the backlash would not be very good

The Airport would have to be open for the following scenerio

A Britsh Airways flight is schedualed to leave London at Friday 6am for Tel Aviv. However there is a delay and the flight cant leave until 12 noon meaning it will arrive in Tel Aviv After Shabbos Starts. If you close the Airport, British Airways will be forced to put in a hotel and feed all the passengers and crew in London for the 200 or so passengers costing them alot of money. They will then decide not to fly to Israel, Most airlines would decide to do this as well because they dont want to lose money either.

You can say Shabbos trumps this and that is correct, but British Airways doesnt care

These were just some issues, the snow plow issue came up last year in jerusalem where there was a storm on Thursday Night-Friday Morning and the Snow plows worked into Shabbos and one of the Rabbi’s complained.

In America we really dont think about these things, but in Israel it can be complicated. Running a municipality really is a 24/7 job

I heard somewhere from the Bostoner Rebbe and he said he was glad frum jews did not run Israel and he mentioned the Airport. He admitted it would be very hard to close the airport for 24 hours or more since flights land at all times , are delayed before takeoff (If a Flight would be delayed to land on Shabbos and the airport would be closed the airline would be liable to put up all the passengers in the departing city and most airlines would just refuse to fly to israel if they were forced to do that)
