Two people were killed Sunday morning after a red Porsche crashed into the second floor of a commercial building in Toms River, police said.

The vehicle, which was traveling at a high rate of speed, was traveling northbound on Hooper Avenue when it lost control, hit the center median and plunged into the second story of the building, said Jillian Messina, a spokeswoman for the Toms River Police Department.

The vehicle lodged into the second story of a building that houses four businesses, including a counseling service and a real estate company, on the southbound side of Hooper Avenue.

Police did not release the names of the vehicle’s occupants.

Hooper Avenue and Indian Hill roads were closed after the 6:30 a.m. incident, according to the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department.

  1. The penalties for reckless driving need to be better enforced. The story does not say whether the driver was among the dead, but if he/she was not, he/she should be among the unlicensed to drive for at least 5 years. Better enforcement means catching more perpetrators, not necessarily stiffer punishment for the caught.
