A person has shot on East 21 Street between Avenue K and Avenue L, Thursday afternoon.

The victim was transported by EMS to the hospital, with two gunshot wounds – one to the chest, one to the arm.

The shooting occurred outside the “Urban Dove Team Charter School” – located inside the East Midwood Jewish Center – at around 2:30PM.

Highly credible sources tell YWN that the suspects arrived from another neighborhood, and waited outside until the victim exited the school. It was the first day that this student was at this school.

The Commanding Officer of the NYPD 70 Precinct, Inspector David Wall, along with the Captain of the 70 Precinct, as well as Deputy Inspector Richi Taylor of Community Affairs all responded to the scene.

YWN reminds our readers that this school was the scene of a massive protest in November of 2019, when the community rallied to prevent the Jewish Center from leasing the property to the Charter School.

Local Yeshivas had offered to rent the building on the same terms, but the East Midwood board decided they’d rather rent to an outside Charter school.

The community feared that the school would bring violence into the quiet residential neighborhood. The school, was closed for COVID, and had just recenty opened on a small scale.

  1. That’s outside the school that the neighborhood fought to keep out. Just a couple years ago, the Conservative synagogue that owns the building decided to turn their back on the jewish community and rent the building out to a charter school for troubled kids from. The community protested in force and were accused of being racists.

  2. Please remove the race of the suspects. I’m very concerned about backlash. I agree with President Biden. America is a racist country and the WHITE males (except for Biden) here have been perpetrating systemic racism since its founding. We (except for Biden) are inherently racist. The 2 suspects should be given reparations and have a City named after them.

  3. WgFPD2: is it racist to say african-american?
let me do that again, AFRICAN-AMERICAN.
whenever I hear of a violent, sensless, random, brutal crime, the first thing I think is AFRICAN-AMERICAN.
AFRICAN-AMERICAN is quickly becoming politically incorrect, with all the atrocities that AFRICAN-AMERICANs are committing and all those they write about committing. It will go the same way AFRO-AMERICAN went before it, and BLACK before that. I can’t even type what it was before “BLACK”, it will not be posted here.

  4. I don’t get it??? How racist is YWN going to get? What was ever wrong with a couple of people shooting someone in NYC? That is how some people express themselves and no none should get racially involved this otherwise cultural activity. Perhaps it was a “mental health incident” and here YWN reports it as “as feared”, like we have nothing better to do than to stigmatize those who struggle with mental health challenges?
