Rabbi Gissinger To Remove Hechsher From KYO Restaurant

monsey.jpg(Click on image to ENLARGE) After speaking to numerous Rabbonim in Monsey, we have been given the authorization to inform the public that Rav Shlomo Gissinger will be removing his Kashrus certification from KYO Restaurant. The removal of the Hechsher is not because any non-Kosher food was found there, but due to the fact that the Monsey Rabbonim have just issued a decree forbidding someone to give a Hechsher on a store which is owned by someone who is not Shomer Torah Umitzvos.

Rabbi Gissinger will be removing his Hechsher as of tomorrow, 11/23/07.

  1. Jo Jo-
    Emes’s comment is legit. If the restaurants in Bklyn and Manhattan owned by non Jews have a hechsher then under what halachig basis are the rabanim in Monsey deciding its assur?

  2. I am very bothered by this.
    It gives the perception that the Rabbi caved in to the antics and political fallout of;
    “A blatant act of Motzei Shem Ra started by a disgruntled employee who was fired last week”.
    Shouldn’t moral fortitude take precedence over political correctness?

  3. YW: Thanks for publicizing this. Pls let us know also who are the Monsey Rabbonim and why did this occur just now (a few months after a frum-owned sushi restaraunt opened in Monsey). Thank you.

  4. if anyone had guts in this case they would have given the owner more time to find a partner or sell it outright. when a kashrus agency makes thmselves more stringent they always give the existing clients time to conform.

    I hope it works out.

  5. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I read the article when it says “Shomer Torah Umitzvos” to refer to someone who has the obligation to be “Shomer Torah Umitzvos.” In other words, the new rule is meant to preclude Hashgacha from non-religious Yiddin. This makes sense because Goyim generally have more respect for Hashgachah than non-religious Jews. Is this what they meant? Is KYO’s owner Jewish?

  6. To the dozens of commentators whose comments were not approved:

    If you have issues with the Rabbonim in Monsey, we suggest you go speak to them face-to-face.

    Blatant Lashon Hara and totally false accusations will not be tolerated here.

    HAPPY TURKEY!
