Protest Scheduled For Today Outside Maimonides Hospital

iz protest.jpg(Click on image to ENLARGE) A few Boro Park community leaders are calling for a protest today, due to the continued land-grab of Maimonides Medical Center in the Boro Park neighborhood, which they say is having a negative environmental impact on the surrounding neighborhood, on its air quality, parking facilities, traffic, quality of life, and property values.

“Maimonides Hospital threatens to upset the delicate balance in commercial/residential land use in the Hospital neighborhood. Already, parking space has become very scarce and loud noise levels from air conditioning equipment is disturbing neighboring families. The community seeks to change the new project into one that is more community-friendly,” one of the organizers told YWN.

The are calling on people in the area to voice their opposition, today Sunday March 2, 2008. From 12:00PM to 1:00pm at 10th Avenue between 48th Street and 49th Streets.

Organizers are asking everyone to please obey the law – and not block the entrances to the hospital.

  1. When the frum Yiddden need medical care they run to the nearest hospital. If more people move into the Boro Park area, more health care will be demanded. If the hospital cannot expand, the same protesters will complain that they’re not getting the care that they demand.Whichever way you do it,you lose.

  2. who are these so-called community leaders???

What’s their agenda?? This is the most ridiculous charge I have ever heard!

We should all be thankful that we have a hospital close by so that we can visit the sick without the need for Bikur Cholim homes.

  3. WHAT A CHILUL HASHEM !!!! FOR YEARS THE COMMUNITIY IS ASKING THEM TO EXPAND, AND NOW THEY GO TO PROTEST ??? I WONDER WHO THOSE COMMUNITY LEADERS ARE???

  4. why are we always looking to complain?! bh we have a hospital that caters very much to the frum community i think this is a lack of hakoras hatov!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. QUESTION to theyeshivaworld editor (the author of this headline). What exactly is the basis for your choosing to describe these wannabes as LEADERS?

  6. No one should go!

These people are sick; perhaps Maimonides should expand the mental facilities to accommodate them.

  7. Bite the hand that feeds you. Have you ever been to the overcrowded ER? These “leaders” should visit and see people in the halls with no space. Chillul hashem and sakanat nefoshos.

  8. To all you naysayers:

Would you want a huge monstrosity erected on your corner? I grew up on that block, and let me tell you, the parking on my own block was a nightmare. If you don’t have a driveway, or your neighbor is using it, forget parking! And that was without this huge new building on a residential block.

No one is saying Maimonides should not grow. The prudent question is where? I am sure they can find a number of appropriate sites on Fort Hamilton Parkway – a bit removed from the residential areas.

Just think of the other side of the story as well.

  9. Someone not living next to the hospital cannot comment on this excuse me i live on 47th street betw 9th and 10th ave this are is destroyed this a residential area and community theres no parking the prices on houses are changing drastically they are taking over full control we don’t have our privacy and peace we used to have this protest is after they erected a huge building on the corner of 48th street and ft hamilton which changed the zoning in the neighborhood and now this one that they wanna build is 2 blocks away they are cornering us out and we as property owners and tenants have the full right for a board meeting and a full explanation in no other neighborhood would this be excepted.

  10. THIS ONLY HAPPENS IN NY WERE EVERYONE IS SO HYPER THAT THEY CANT JUST TALK ABOUT IT INSTEAD THEY MUST PROTEST WHAT A BIG CHILULL HASHEM!~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. if you enlarge the photo poster, you will have an answer to a lot of questions asked above…its CONG. YETEV LEV OF SATMER…!!! any more questions??????????

  12. With all the buildings they are taking over, they should just designate some parking. I think that will solve a lot of the resentment from the neighbors, as well as those who attempt to visit the hospital or its affiliated offices, and spend hours (literally!) circling the area for parking spaces that just don’t exist. Even doctors with rights at the hospital often avoid it, instead sending other doctors to see their patients, because parking is so impossible.

Maimonides has come a long way in so many areas. Their expansions help them serve the community. But many are just simply frustrated that it’s so hard to get there, and the area seems so overcrowded. I think at least another parking lot would be very helpful.

(They have a large one, that used to be open to the public. For the last several years it has been designated for hospital faculty only, and even then, there are no spots for those who arrive past 5 am.)

  13. It was a joke (,al least in my eyes).
Not too much more than a dozen of people were gathering there speaking to each other, while two other people were giving out the above flyer.
If tose “leaders” are really concerned how come they didn’t show up. on that flyer appearing more than 25 names, which I’d say that even half of them didn’t show up, so to whom can they complain.

BTW. when I didask one of the attendance about the amount of people coming, he excused it by last-minute organizing ETC.

  14. THEY ARE A GREAT HOSPITAL, FOR WHAT THEY DO FOR US THEY DONT DO FOR OTHERS. THEY HAVE THE #1 Dr. there for us. And all they want to do is make it bigger for us

  15. most people purchased homes at a cheaper price because of all this, so now you want the hospital gone????????????????????n
