Gilles Cohen, a Chabad chassid, was violently attacked on the way home from the mikveh on Shabbos morning in a suburb of Paris, the French i24News channel reported on Sunday.
Cohen said he was attacked from behind at about 7:30 a.m. The attacker, apparently of North African origin, beat him, called him a “dirty Jew” and tried to rummage through his pockets in search of money.
Cohen chose not to name the exact city where the attack took place, saying that the incident took place in the Île-de-France region, a region in north-central France which surrounds Paris.
This incident is the latest in a series of anti-Semitic acts reported in France in recent months, with authorities claiming to have increased surveillance around shuls and Jewish institutions.
