Inside Jewish Moscow: Chabad House Hosts Inspiring Visit Amid Winter Setting [PHOTOS GALLERY & VIDEO]

A group visiting under the auspices of the Chabad House in Moscow embarked last Monday evening on a four-day journey to Russia’s capital, with the goal of experiencing Jewish life firsthand and gaining an up-close understanding of the city’s communal institutions.

The program offered participants a comprehensive look at Jewish Moscow. Highlights included visits to the city’s central synagogues, foremost among them the Great Synagogue on Bolshaya Bronnaya Street, a prominent three-floor beis haknesses that serves as a major hub of Jewish life in the city.

The group also toured several kosher restaurants, including two establishments operating under the leadership and supervision of Rabbi Berel Lazar, the Chief Rabbi of Russia, providing insight into the robust kashrus infrastructure that supports daily Jewish life in Moscow.

In addition, participants walked through the area surrounding the Moscow Kremlin and spent dedicated time meeting, conversing with, and connecting to members of the local Jewish community, strengthening bonds of achdus and shared responsibility for Jewish continuity.

The visit took place in classic Russian winter conditions, with snowfall and temperatures hovering around minus 7 degrees Celsius, adding a distinctly authentic atmosphere to the experience.

The journey was documented for YWN by photographer Mordechai Lubecki of Paris, France, capturing moments of Torah, community, and Jewish life in one of the world’s most historic cities.

Important notice: Beginning January 1, 2026, a new visa card requirement for entry into Russia is scheduled to take effect.
