Poll Shows Paterson’s Popularity Still Sinking

pate4.jpgThe latest Siena College poll finds Gov. David Paterson’s popularity among New York voters continuing to fall, with 63 percent viewing him unfavorably.

The poll also found that 81 percent of voters have a negative view of the Democratic governor’s job performance.

A poll conducted last month found Paterson was viewed unfavorably by 58 percent of voters.

The poll released Monday also showed 53 percent of voters want a gay marriage bill that’s backed by Paterson passed in the Senate, where it has died in the past. Thirty-nine percent oppose the measure, including most Republicans, men, older voters, blacks and Protestants.

Siena surveyed 682 registered voters Monday through Wednesday last week. The poll has margin of error of nearly 4 percentage points.
