Child Falls 30 Feet Through Roof At Ateres Chaya

sol.gifBoro Park – An 8-year-old child is lucky to be alive Thursday evening, after she fell approximately 30 feet while playing at her school.

Sources tell YWN that the incident occured at the Beis Ruchel D’Satmar Girls School, which also houses “Aters Chaya”, a popular wedding hall in its basement. The girl was apparently playing at 3:30PM on the school “play-roof”, when she fell through an opening which serves as the opening for the chupa room, landing 30 feet below in the wedding hall. (Jewish law requires the ceremony to be held underneath the sky, so most wedding halls have a roof or door which opens).

Paramedics from Boro Park Hatzolah were rushed to the scene at 53rd Street and 14th Avenue, and found her Boruch Hashem alert, but with numerous possible fractures. She was transported to Lutheran Trauma Center, and is currently undergoing x-rays and other tests.

It is unknown why the roof was open, or if there is a wedding scheduled for this evening.

  1. The managment of the school or hall should know better when they have a wedding hall roof that is a play ground for children all day. This roof opening should allways be closed and not opend till the last student went home from school. It is like a “bor birshus horabim” a pit in the public domain. According to halocho the managment of this facility has to pay for “all” expenses to improve the health of this girl.

  2. how can they be so careless to leave the roof open when there are kids up there it is a halacha to always have a gate around a gate around a roof this might fall into that catagory

  3. omg. what an interesting story. can ywn please post what ends up happening to this girl?whoa did she have a nes. she should bench gomel

  4. There is a minhag, not a REQIIREMENT for ‘open chuppa ander the sky. Most halls have a hole in the roof for that purpose. Why would little children be allowed unsupervised onto a roof of a school and why do they mix a children’s school with a catering hall? Hopefully they will learn to be more careful and may HKB”H send this child (why not call her a ‘girl’?) have a refua shleimo.

  5. BH THAT SHE IS ALIVE AND I LOVE WHEN EVERYONE MAKE COMMENTS EVERYBODY IS A BIG COMMENT BAG SO LETS ALL TRY TO SAY BUROCH HASHEM AND THATS IT.

  6. Thank You number 11. People just make assumptions without knowing details. The girl climbed over the gate to retrieve the ball.

  7. I heard that she is bh doing great with a broken hanmd and a broken leg. May she have a refuah sheleima bekorov
