Stimulus Deal To Add More NYPD Officers To The Streets

nyp1.jpgAn agreement brokered by Senator Charles Schumer could put more than 100 new police officers on city streets.

Federal stimulus dollars will be used to hire 128 officers. It’s part of a deal that allows more experienced officers to be promoted to serve in anti-terror units in city subways.

Schumer says rules governing the stimulus package only allow the NYPD to use the money to hire officers for anti-terror units. Police officials, however, say recruits lack the training to serve in such a division.

The exact amount of money the city will be getting is unclear.

  1. I hope you find this stimulating so I will ask what happens when the money runs out?

The answer is they will be FIRED!!

This is why the Porkulus Bill should NOT have passed!

  2. The stimulus bill is a short term bill. If it is used to hire “temps” no problem, or if it is used to hire temps (or pay overtime) to allow for more officers to do patrols, that’s fine. But it is only a short term federal appropriation.

It’s like recieving a gift of the first year’s mortgage payment to a house you can’t afford – it won’t help after the first year.
