Passenger: I Grabbed Burning Object, Dragged Suspect Out Of Seat

pas.jpgThe following is a CNN report: Passenger Jasper Schuringa told CNN that with the aid of the cabin crew, he helped subdue and isolate Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the suspect in Friday’s attempted terrorist attack on a Northwest Airlines jet.

Schuringa said he heard a big bang that sounded like a firecracker going off, and someone started yelling: “Fire! Fire!”

Then, there was smoke. That’s when Schuringa, a resident of Amsterdam, said he knew something was terribly wrong.

When he noticed that Abdulmutallab was not moving, he grew suspicious. He jumped over the passenger next to him and lunged over Abdulmutallab’s seat.

Schuringa said he saw that Abdulmutallab was holding a burning object between his legs.

“I pulled the object from him and tried to extinguish the fire with my hands and threw it away,” Schuringa said. “Water! Water,” he said he screamed. He heard fire extinguishers as he pulled Abdulmutallab out of his seat and dragged him to the front of the plane.

Schuringa said Abdulmutallab seemed dazed. “He was staring into nothing.”

Schuringa said he stripped off Abdulmutallab’s clothes to make sure he did not have other explosives on him. A crew member helped handcuff him.

He said other passengers applauded as he walked back to his own seat.

“My hands are pretty burned. I am fine,” he said. “I am shaken up. I am happy to be here.”

  1. 1 – The “White House” -aka PINO Obama – says it was an act of Terrorism. Wow! Thanks for telling us! Really news! The real news: an act of MOSLEM terrorism. Time for “ethnic” profiling, eh Mr.Pres?.

2 – Boarded in AMsterdam.. was the screener a native Dutchman?

3 – No one in the entire cabin crew spotted him as a possible odd-ball beforehand?

  2. Too bad he didn’t kill him on the spot. Oh, I forgot, the man is entitled to be Mirandized, right? Wouldn’t want to deny a murderous terrorist his due process rights. Why, the Idiot in Chief would be very upset about that.

  3. What a courageous man!!!! A true hero!!!!!
He certainly does deserve serious recognition – as #1 said. I hope something is done in his honor.

  4. The airline shpould gve him some free trips and the white house should also do somethng like they did for that pilot that landed in the water (I thnk the hudson river)
