Noam Shalit Begins To Detail Gilad’s Captivity

Mr. Noam Shalit, Gilad’s father, is beginning to learn of his son’s ordeal, sharing some of the information with the public. He explained that Gilad’s Hamas captivity was most difficult during the first year, but he declined to detail events. He told the tzibur that Gilad is beginning to meet with his closest friends and in his spare time, he is playing ping pong. Mr. Shalit made his comments during a media event on motzei Simchas Torah.

Speaking on Thursday night, he assured the crowd in attendance that overall, Gilad is feeling well, adding he remains under constant care supervised by the IDF Medical Corps.

It appears that efforts are continuing to permit Gilad to return to regular lifestyle, and a large number of security personnel were on hand when he was bike riding, keeping curious observers at a distance. Gilad came out for a walk over Yomtov, escorted by his mother Aviva and IDF medical personnel.

Mr. Shalit added that Gilad was inside Gaza during Operating Cast Lead and did have access to a radio, hearing broadcasts about the fighting as well as the explosions in Gaza.

Noam explained that while he has a good appetite, Gilad is having trouble sleeping; confident that time will help the healing process. He was deprived of contact with others and sunlight for five years and four months, and this has taken a toll.

Mr. Shalit explained his understanding for the concern and the public’s desire to know, calling on the tzibur to please exhibit patience since the healing process will take time.
