Israel: A Sefer Torah Marking Ben-Eliezer’s Recovery


A special event was held in Tel Aviv involving MK Binyamin Ben-Eliezer, hosted by Rabbi Yeshayahu Pinto. When Ben-Eliezer was quite ill with a major bout with pneumonia and the doctors had given up hope, Rav Pinto continued davening until the morning Ben-Eliezer opened his eyes.

A seudas hodaya was held to mark the event, hosted by the Rav, which concluded with the completion of a Sefer Torah dedicated in honor of the former minister’s total recovery. According to a Kikar Shabbat report, no less than 10 cabinet ministers and 25 members of Knesset participated in the event.

Guests included Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, opposition leader Tzipi Livni, Finance Minister Dr. Yuval Shteinitz, Rabbi Minister Daniel Hershkowitz, Minister Silvan Shalom, MK Shaul Mofaz, Minister Yisrael Katz, Minister Dr. Uzi Landau, MK Amir Peretz, Deputy Minister Yaakov Litzman, Minister Ariel Atias, MK Moshe Gafne and Minister Sofia Landver.

During the event MK Gideon Ezra asked the Rav to make a special mishabeirach. Ezra was also very ill, and he was quite visibly emotional when the tzibur davened for him, to strengthen his observance of Torah and Mitzvos towards continued health.
