Israel: Nationwide Strike Set for 6:00am Monday

Short of a miracle during the night, there will be a nationwide strike launched by the Histadrut National Labor Federation beginning at 6:00am Monday morning, 10 Cheshvan.

The strike protests the increasing number of workers in the public and private sectors hired by manpower agencies and therefore receiving minimum or no social benefits.

Following is a list of many of the agencies that will be closed or operating on a holiday schedule during the open-ended strike:

Airport: Ben-Gurion International Airport (all incoming and outgoing flights will be halted).
Banks will be closed
Bituach Leumi (National Insurance Institute) – all branches around the country
Buses: All bus service will be halted (Including Egged and Dan) (Seems to be unclear – Egged co-op partner drivers may be working and just employees are striking). If this is the case, there will be bus service, albeit much less than regular.
Chief Rabbinate – includes all Rabbanut offices around the country
Courts: Nation’s court houses will be closed
Daycare: WIZO and Na’amat daycare centers close (Emunah centers will operate)
Employment: State employment offices will be closed
HMOs: Clalit Kupat Cholim (HMO) will be closed
Hospitals: State hospitals move to Shabbos schedule (all non life-saving surgeries will be postponed. Outpatient clinics closed, and any non-emergency treatment will be postponed)
Knesset will be on strike (Speaker Rivlin announced committees will convene)
Local government will be closed, halting all municipal services in all cities and municipalities and regional councils.
Mail: Israel Postal Authority will strike
Seaports will be closed, shutting the Ports of Haifa and Ashdod.
Stock market: TASE (Tel Aviv Stock Exchange) will be closed.
TV: Israel Television will be off the air
Universities will be closed (Hebrew, Ben-Gurion, Weizmann, Haifa, Tel Aviv, Bar Ilan, Open, Kibbutzim, ORT and others)
Utility companies (electric and water) will only handle emergencies

  1. Just another day at the office. I cannot believe that during a time of national crisis and talk of attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities, they can shut down the whole country for a day. These labor unions make Greece look good.

  2. Too bad the Izzys dont have someone like Ronaldus Magnus (Ronald Wilson Reagan) who would fire them all like he did with the Air Traffic Controllers

  3. GadolHadorah — I hope it will only be for a day! This strike is “open ended” — it can go on for a lot more than a day. . .
