Eichler: I Don’t Owe the Dati Leumi Community a Thing

MK (Yahadut HaTorah) Rav Yisrael Eichler on Wednesday, stated angrily that the chareidim do not owe the dati leumi tzibur a thing, referring to the impending expulsion of 30 families from five apartment buildings in the Ulpana neighborhood of Beit El.

Seeking to enlist the chareidi elected officials to vote in favor of the bill that is being brought to the plenum today, Eichler stated he does not feel any debt to the dati leumi tzibur whatsoever, pointing out that it was MK (HaBayit HaYehudi) Zevulun Orlev was among the first to visit the ‘sucker’s tent’ organized to enlist support towards drafting chareidim into the IDF.

The bill is not expected to pass in Knesset. It is the last hope of reversing the High Court of Justice’s eviction order that will leave the families homeless and result in the destruction of the buildings.

  1. Welcome to the world of pseudo-Judaic politics were fakers pretend to be Torah Jews but act like Goyim. Of course this man do not owe the dati leumi tzibur a thing but what about what he owes to G-D? What about his obligations to live according to the Torah as we have received it and clarified it through the Halachah? This is SINAT HINAM of the worst order.

  2. Yisrael Eichler, you are lending a hand to the expulsion of Jews from their homes. Nothing was learned from the expulsion of the Jews from Gush Katif. Have you asked yourself why many charedim don’t vote for charedi parties?

  3. Nice show of ” Acdus ”

And the Dati Leumi community owes you nothing- a community that serves in the army protecting your way of life.

No blood ever expended from the Charedi community protecting other Jews….

Oh I forgot. The Charedi Tefillot and learning are protecting ” Kllal Yisroel ”

    Thanks.

  4. What a waste of an opportunity to increase shalom among Yidden. Instead of demonstrating that we are mature, and willing to put aside our differences to help each other in time of need, this person decided to engage in petty revenge.
Iguess that’s what happens when you leave the Bais Medrash to become a politician.
However, it must be noted that you can never believe anything in the media. There could be much more to the story than we know.

  5. These attacks on Rav Eichler are out of place. After the treachery of 1902, no RZ can talk about achdus. Ever since then, the RZs have been aligning with the chilonim against the Torah. Rav Eichler was being kind by only mentioning the latest example, the one about drafting Jews into the army r”l.

  6. what a pure Schm-ck to say a thing like that. Not to feel another Jew’s suffering and to stand by and do nothing. This is the lowest ebb for frumkite. PURE DISGUST!!

  7. WOW BTMODAD, sad but true. Inability to see the effects of our actions was the underlying issue of the story Kamtza and Bar Kamtza vis a vis Rav Zecharia’s reaction to the korbon.

  8. You people have no idea of what led up to these remarks, what he was replying to, and what was the history here. All politics is building coalitions, helping others with things that are important to them so that they will help you with things that are important to you. Clearly there was frustration here that he was not getting support on things that are near and dear to the chareidi community. I doubt that this was a prepared speech in a formal setting, rather it was probably an informal response to someone pressing him to “pay back” the MO community and he was responding to that.

  9. There is no discussion in this “news” article about his core reasons for not voting against expulsion (and I do not claim to know or understand what the reason could be). His remarks only address the specific issue of helping them because he owes it to them, which is probably what someone said to him just before he said this.

  10. MK EICHLER, when the vote on your communities comes up and the explusion begins for them in Emanuel, Beitar, Kiryat Sefer, Nvei Yakav, Ramat Shlomo….your RZ friends will be out demonstrating for it to stop since their understanding of National Events far surpasses your myopic view.

  11. wow! I’m appalled by all these hatefull comments! let’s look a second at eichlers point of view. al tadin et chavero od shetagia limkomo.
    1) eichler has his daat torah he consults with.
    2) based on his rabanims ruling, army for kollel yingerleit is unacceptable. that’s based on their understanding of halacha.
    3) based on his daat torahs ruling, it seems like its no mitzva hence no transgression in yishuvim settlement or eviction.
    4) I have never seen any outcry when eichlers halachachic authorities rulings were trampled by dati leumi party (abolishing tal) as when eichler abided his rabanic rulings which even secular menachem begin agreed to, and didn’t vote in accordance to dati leumis rabinic rulings.
    5) the point of every outcry here of sinat hinam should be applied to dati leumi when they constantly kick haredis in the b.. too. not doing so is hypocritical and a violation of morality!
    6) to eichler, his rabbis rulings or instructions superseed dati leumis rabinic rulings just like vice versa. hence, if you didn’t cry out by tal abolishment, for accepting dati leumi rulings, atleast don’t kick others who follow another ruling (by too many rabinic scholars) in the …

  12. What a wasted opportunity to show empathy for another group in Klal Yisrael. MK Eichler’s comparison to the DL community’s view on drafting Chareidim is not apt, as serving in the army is viewed in the DL community as among the highest forms of service to Klal Yisrael – so of course they want Chareidim to serve. Last I checked, Chareidim don’t view expulsion of Frum Jews from their homes in Eretz Yisrael as part of their service to the Klal – so why not support the bill in question? There is room for debate on what is or is not true service to the Klal, but the petty spitefulness shown by MK Eichler is a classic exhibit of Sinas Chinam.

Thank you, MK Eichler, for showing us why we’ve not been Zoche to the final Geula yet.

  13. Hmm. I disagree with you all; I felt pride when I saw he said that.

You can’t vote to coerce us because of what you feel is correct, then cry achdus when you want our vote. Rav shteinman is leading the polotical agenda regarding the army. If you think you have a good point and could convince him-by all means go make an appointment and visit him. I’m sure the leaders of the dati leumi community could get a meeting.

But instead you choose to coerce. Well, welcome to war.

  14. I’m fed up with this kind of thing. The same old unspoken mantra…

Sinas chinim is a horrible blot on Yidden, bringing us all sorts of calamities…but…that of course does not apply to MY hatreds…those hatreds are righteous and proper.

    Sick…truly sick.

  15. You pple have no idea what you’re talking about! Kol Hakavod to Eichler. The chareidim are always backing the daati leumi votes and MKs and when it comes to the measliest of smallest needs of the chareidim, they turn their backs on the chareidim. The daati Leumi Mks should’ve remembered that the Ulpana issue is gonna need them to have chareidi backing and so they should therefor come to the aid or support the chareidim in their need now. This is how it works. One gives and one takes and vice versa. You have to make a plan and they didn’t. While noone is dancing on the street that yidden are gonna be thrown out of their homes again. There still was a way to prevent it.

  16. Mr. “Zion” flag and all the rest of you from that orientation. When will you come to understand? Do you really think that these decrees on Jews are a result of this government or another? Do really think that those small Aguda or Shas politicians are what makes the difference? Don’t you see a pattern in what has been going on for the last 20 years or so since the Oslo Agreements?
Mabey G-d is doing us a favor? Instead of bringing down the State in one bang, mabey he is doing things slowly to make us understand? Are you sure it was not a mistake to follow the Zionists? Can’t you take more seriously what the Nevi’im teach and what we read in siddur every day? There will be a Geula by Moshiach. Eliyahu Hanavi will be the Mevaser, WHO ARE WE FOLLOWING INSTEAD???
Are you still fooling yourselves that the Zionist State is the soulution to the Holocaust? Are you sure that G-d does not have a say? Do you say the ‘V’hoyo Im Shamoa’ every day?

  17. I was appalled by Eichlers’ comment! I am a Frum Jew-who is he? How could he say such a terrible thing? Where is his love of Am Yisroel? Where is his Achdus?
He is disgusting!People like him bring tragedies to Am Yisroe!
He should apologize! How would he like it if one day, an arab says that all of the Belz community’s property is truly mine! that this arab is going to burn down every house and murder every Jew there who doesn’t get out now?
Would you like it if the Dati Leumi community would say, that this is not my problem, it is a Chareidi problem?
Eichler and the likes of him is the problem.

  18. I’m shocked at the dishonest reporting by YWN on this story?

MK Eichler DID vote today in support of the “Chak H’Hasdara” which would of legalized the 30 Ulpana homes. (as oppesed to the Litvish MK’s Gafni and Maklev who voted against)

When asked why he voted “for”, thats when he said its NOT because he owes anything to the Daati Leumi but because thats what the Belzer rebbe instructed him.

It looks like YWN has some agenda here.

  19. @ysr514 – thanks for investigating the details to this story, and a very big shame on whoever wrote the story for YWN. This proves what I wrote before – “You people have no idea of what led up to these remarks, what he was replying to, and what was the history here.”

And for those who voted against, there is no discussion here to explain the issues, the reason to vote against, or other details. Just hatred and name calling. If people would express sadness for what they believe is an error, this I could understand. But the hatred here is awful.

  20. I want to clarify something re: my earlier comment. MK Eichler deserves credit for his ultimate vote in favor of the law; it’s his comment about owing the DL community anything that is objectionable.

Additionally, if ysr514’s comment on the context of the quote is correct, YWN’s reporting is quite skewered, to the point of dishonesty. The comment would still be objectionable, but not nearly to the point implied – and I, for one, would not have commented on it the way that I did.

  21. I didn’t know what happened but thank god I was smart enough to not make a judgement based on a YWN news report. Why does anyone think that anything being said here is remotely factual?

  22. @anIsraeliYid, Probably what Eichler meant was that POLITICALLY he doesn’t owe anything to the DL MKs and that he’s supporting the anti-expulsion bill only because of the Belzer Rebbe’s ideology of achdus, is there anything wrong with saying that?

  23. Why are all these idiots commenting without reading the article? Eichler voted for the bill, while so many DL MKs — who should have been in the forefront of the fight for it — stayed outside the Knesset, thus giving half a vote to the opponents. Eichler is 100% right; he owes the DL community nothing. He’s right to point out that Orlev is busily campaigning against limud hatorah, while Eichler is supporting the residents of Betel! Yasher Koach R Yisroel for telling the truth, and for standing by these DL residents while their own MKs abandoned them.

  24. “The chareidim are always backing the daati leumi votes and MKs and when it comes to the measliest of smallest needs of the chareidim, they turn their backs on the chareidim”.—-HELLO, are you reporting on news from the same country that we are talking about??? I cant think of one similiar item that they voted on together except for illegal immigrant.

BTW anyone ever research why the BELZER REBBE has a warm and working connection to the Dati Leumi kehilla? Find out the beautiful stories between them. (Mercaz harav, Friday nite onegs, Melava Malkahs, etc.)
