Mofaz on Ongoing Warfare in Southern Israel

Kadima leader MK Shaul Mofaz, a former defense minister and IDF chief of staff told Israel Radio on Sunday morning, that the ongoing situation vis-à-vis southern Israel and Gaza rocket fire is intolerable. Mofaz lashed out at both Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak, accusing the current administration of losing the deterrence against rocket fire that was achieved in Operation Cast Lead, the IDF counterterrorism offensive in Gaza in the winter of 2009.

“I am disappointed with the government’s lack of direction and decision-making to stop the rockets as I believe most residents of Israel are” Mofaz stated, adding “We have a partner in Ramallah and talks should have been ongoing with him during the past years but I don’t connect that to the warfare in Gaza, which needs to be addressed” he added.

Mofaz called the current situation “intolerable”, pointing out a government cannot sit back and continue to permit terrorists to launch rockets “while and our children and schools are being fired upon” without action to bring a halt to the rocket fire.
