Following an investigation, police are recommending a criminal indictment against Rabbi Avraham Chaim Sherman, a former dayan on the Chief Rabbinate Supreme Court. He is alleged to have interfered in an investigation, abused his senior position, and breach of trust.
Police report the investigation reveals that during his tenure as a dayan on the court, the rav arranged for the release of a recalcitrant husband, one refusing to grant his wife a ‘get’ in contradiction to protocol after buckling under pressure applied on him. The investigation was launched in response to a complaint filed with the ombudsman’s office, during which Rav Sherman was questioned after the state attorney general gave the green light for the move.
