Orthodox Teen Who Lobbied For Gun Control Says Disappointed At Defeat

samiA St. Louis Park teenager who began lobbying for tighter gun controls after his father was killed in a workplace shooting says he’s disappointed that nothing will change this year in the Legislature.

But Sami Rahamim says he wasn’t shocked to hear that House Speaker Paul Thissen had ruled out any votes in that chamber this year.

Rahamim says he and others on his side of the issue say they knew it wasn’t going to be a “one-hit wonder” to pass tougher gun laws. He says progress was made.

Rahamim calls gun violence a problem that “could be so easily fixed.” And he says the majority of the public agrees with his side.

  1. How would gun control have helped? The murderer was clearly acting criminally. If the offender had no problem with murdering someone, do you really believe he would have refrained from acquiring an unlawful firearm?

  2. I feel badly for this young man. Losing his a relative in any manner is a sad, traumatic situation. BDE.

The article states that he was killed in a workplace shooting. Therefore ban guns.

If a person is struck by a vehicle do we ban cars & trucks?
If a person is stabbed to death do we ban knives?
    If a person uses a bomb……..etc.

    Guns don’t kill…..People kill.

    1. More must be done to treat mental illness, be it permanent or temporary MI.

    2. Dangerous criminals must be locked away for longer periods of time. Early release should be reserved for those who commit white collar crimes not murder, mayhem, etc.

  3. How about we make murder illegal? Then it won’t happen anymore. Same with carjacking. Rape. Genocide. Laws against all of these will clearly prevent their recurrence.

He is like a Conservative Jew preaching Torah…lost.

Ask American law enforcement organizations..and compare gun ownership and gun violoence rates in any and all other western democracies.

The prevalence of firearms in this country is unique, and directly tied to the frequency of gun crime.

  5. And armedjew…your monicker and your position seems to me to be derech ha goyim…and ra ra John Wayne goyim at that. Where is the Yiddishe mesorah for such infatuation with firearms? I work in a law enforcement agency, and I don’t see that kind of silliness among law enforcement officers.

  6. in response to YonasonW,you are 100% correct in the correlation between gun violence and the prevalence of guns, unfortunetly for you, the facts show that municipalties with the harshest gun laws have the most gun violence.(ie. Chicago courtesy of rham emanual)Also you are correct that gun culture per se is not a yiddeshe hashkafa, but fighting against counterproductive socialist power grabs that harm the country we love certainly is something we should all be for.

  7. Poor kid. M’zul nisht vissin fin dem but facts are facts and that is that the criminals will get the guns anyway. If a criminal with a gun walks into someplace knowing that he/she may not make it out alive it might just act as a deterrent.

Guns to the law abiding citizens!!!

  8. I have a very dear friend whose parent was killed by a truck. BH he is smart enough NOT to want to ban trucks!!

  9. One can argue that the higher crime rates in the United States are related to the fact that not only was England especially lawless compared to other countries (probably due to the fact it was occupied for foreigner from 1066 until the end of the middle ages, and the English have a rich tradition of resistance – think Robin Hood), but America was a country largely populated by criminals and traitors, many of whom had to choose between being Americans or being drawn and quartered (or at least hanged).

Americans would be relatively lawless regardless of whether they were using pistols or muskets or knives or swords. The guns on the other hand, do nothing on their own, and left to their own devices, will rust.

  10. to Mark Levin: okay, let’s make a deal – we will treat guns the same exact way we treat cars and trucks. First, we have an age minimum. No more 5 year olds with guns to kill their 2 year old sisters (see yesterdays news). Next, you need to take courses to show that you are qualified to own a gun before you can get your gun. Next, you need to hold a license to operate a gun. Next, you must register each and every gun. Next, anyone owning a gun must comply with certain safety features. Next, anyone owning a gun must have insurance for it.

Stop being fooled by the gun lobby, people, you are smarter than that. No one wants to take anyone’s guns away – just make ownership more responsible.

And, yes, these rules will easily prevent gun violence.

  11. Akuperma,

Guns on the other hand, do nothing on their own…other than provide generally the ONLY means of committing a deadly assault in an instant on an impulse…at the risk of causing you cognisant dissonance…just ask a prosecutor.

One can argue anything tyhey wish to…this is a free country…but these are the rantings of the uninformed.
