Israel Poll: Who Cooks for Rosh Hashanah in Israel and Who is Going Out?


The Tishrei Yomtov season is well underway and the shopping has begun, with consumers filling shopping carts to capacity. Meat, fish and pomegranate sales are up, as are honey sales, with this being the busiest season, with Israel’s Honey Council reporting that Israelis use 5000 tons of honey annually.

News12 reports that according to a poll, 36% of Israelis are celebrating Rosh Hashanah at home, while 57% will be with family. 5% will spend Yomtov with friends and 4% abroad. Only 3% stated they do not celebrate Rosh Hashanah.

Who is cooking for Rosh Hashanah?

· 34% of Israelis will have guests and spread the work evenly.

· 30% explain they cook most of the meal.

· 36% admit they come simply for the food.

When the hosts were asked who was cooking meals:

· 62% are cooking the entire meal.

· 27% said there is equal distribution.

· 11% use prepared foods as the average meal costs NIS 130 per person, so at times, using catered food may be more cost effective.
